15 People Business Insider Left Off Its ‘Top 50 Tech PR’ List

business-insider-logo

ICYMI, yesterday Business Insider posted another of its famous clickbait listicles (not that we would ever do anything like that, cough cough). This one was of particular interest to the people in PR.

It’s true that “The 50 Best Public Relations People in the Tech Industry in 2014” was — as one of our industry friends put it — “so arbitrary.” At the same time, it’s always good to see journalists highlighting the real, valuable work done by PR rather than denigrating the entire industry.

It was also nice to see friends of the site Ed Zitron of EZPR and Barbara Bates of Eastwick get some respect.

A couple of things we noticed: someone really likes working with Waggener Edstrom and Brew PR and there weren’t a whole lot of names on the list from the usual suspects. Check out the O’Dwyer’s top tech firms list and notice how many of them didn’t appear in the BI post.

After the jump, we listed some people — both abstract and specific — whose absence we noted.

Attention Partner Colin Nagy Moves to Barbarian Group as Executive Director

First on PRNewser: Attention partner Colin Nagy is now Colin the Barbarian. Nagy accepted the newly-created role of executive director of earned/social media at the Barbarian Group. He will begin building the new department this Monday to focus on word-of-mouth, branded content and social media strategy for Barbarian’s clients.

Nagy has worked with partner and founder Curtis Hougland to build the firm over the past several years while focusing on media clients such as The Daily Beast and Newsweek. The Boston-based Barbarian Group is bigger than attention at roughly 75 employees.

Our colleagues at AgencySpy reported a small round of layoffs at Barbarian last month.

Attention Pushes Tracy Morgan to Tweet

UPDATE: Tracy Morgan is now on Twitter (@RealTracyMorgan)!

The netroots effort to get Tracy Morgan to join Twitter (Twacy.org) broke through to the MSM today with a WSJ Digits column.

Twacy.org, a subsite of OMGICU, is being pushed along by Colin Nagy and his colleagues at Attention. Nagy explained over chat, “Hugh is my friend. We’re helping him cos we think it’s funny.”

OMGICU is a socially networked celebrity sighting service run by Hugh Dornbush.

The Twacy movement is burning up Facebook and hashing up Twitter, for example @hmontydoughnuts writes, “‘I have to pay my fine in cash. I guess FCC stands for Federal Bunch of Sticklers.” Bring Tracy Morgan to Twitter. #twacy”.

Mr. Dornbush’s video plea is after the jump:
