Great Holiday Cards from PR Firms

Like the rest of you, we’ve received quite a few holiday-themed e-cards from various firms and individuals over the past two weeks. We’d like to highlight a few that stood out (listed in no particular order, because you know we don’t play favorites):

Oh, and apologies to everyone we left out—our number one New Year’s resolution is “re-organize your inbox!!!”

Wolff Olins’s nicely animated New Year’s resolutions card

CRT/Tanaka’s “Inspired by You” video, which uses human silhouettes to spell themes

APCO Worldwide’s clip featuring “Thank You” messages from around the world

Jack Morton’s “What I’m Looking Forward to in 2013” Pinterest page featuring original art inspired by optimistic New Year’s suggestions

Cision PR’s “Cringe Worthy Moments” reviewing some of the year’s PR fails

TriplePoint’s musical, hip and awkward “Happy Holidays”

Here’s an interesting one that’s more of a year-in-review: Waggener Edstrom’s “Go Native” city guide celebrating another year of “favorite local experiences” in cities around the world.

We also want to take a brief moment to recognize Havas PR’s “12 Days of Havas” giving initiative, created in coordination with #GivingTuesday.

Spin the Agencies of Record

MWW, an independent public relations firm, has been selected to represent Sonoma County, California’s Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates.

The brand is launching a new campaign that significantly changes the way consumers pair wine with both food and lifestyle moments, reaching age-appropriate Millennials and Gen X’ers through Web-based sensory experiences, mobile-enabled pairings and social communication. Kendall-Jackson is reaching out to a new generation of consumers via a new platform that offers content for an ever-growing range of consumers, bloggers, influencers and traditional media.

Following a review, Johnson & Johnson has decided to retain Universal McCann of Interpublic Group of Companies as its North American media agency. UM’s J3, the dedicated agency which handles the account, will lead the effort from its New York City and Toronto offices. Said a Johnson & Johnson spokesperson, “The review began several months ago with the objective of leveraging the company’s scale to identify cost savings and increase value. Johnson & Johnson has partnered with UM since 1973 and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership.”

The Hass Avocado Board, which promotes the health benefits of avocados and focuses on increasing avocado consumption in the U.S., has retained CRT/tanaka as its Agency of Record. After an extensive review and vetting process, CRT/tanaka was selected to provide strategic public relations programs for a new marketing communications strategy for Hass Avocados.

Social Media Week Goes ‘Beyond Facebook and Twitter’

Tapping into the excitement over digital platforms not named Facebook or Twitter, Fenton hosted the Social Media Week panel titled “Communicating with Customers Beyond Facebook and Twitter: How Brands Are Accessing Start-ups to Collaborate and Communicate.”

Certainly, the number of social platforms has extended far beyond these two behemoths. Beyoncé and Jay-Z, for instance, opted for a Tumblr page to reveal the first pics of little Blue Ivy (awww!) rather than selling them or posting them elsewhere. Instagram links pop up on our Twitter feed all day.

And, of course, Pinterest is of interest. The “Pinterest” name was dropped a few times at last night’s event.

We are losing the Internet, site by site. Google has a big black box on its logo. Wikipedia is dark. And dozens of New Yorkers may be out on the street because they can’t get to the rental listings on Craigslist.

Websites are taking their opposition to SOPA (the Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) to the Web, protesting the bill by demonstrating what they think will happen should it go into effect.
Air New Zealand, which is now known for its videos as much as anything airline-related, has launched a new set of clips starring Mason & Jason, a pair of conjoined sheep. The sheep twins are actually introducing the Economy Skycouch, a new way to fly coach with more room to stretch out.

Also in the video, Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race, and Rob Fyfe, the airline’s CEO. (He’s wearing pink shorts and a purple headband.
The video, called “Fit to Fly,” hopes to follow in the viral success of the airline’s previous safety videos, like “The Bare Essentials of Safety from Air New Zealand,” which has gotten nearly six million YouTube views to date.

Air New Zealand’s creative agency in New Zealand, .99, developed the video; CRT/tanaka is the airline’s U.S. PR firm.

Six months after CRT/tanaka acquired his agency, Livingston Communications, Geoff Livingston has announced he will be moving on to start a new company sometime in 2010.

Livingston has not announced details on the new company, but did say it will include, “deep rooting in social responsibility.” CRT/tanaka said that Priya Ramesh will be filling Geoff’s role in the agency’s DC office, and added that they will also be “looking to bring someone else in.” Livingston will also remain on as a consultant for the foreseeable future.

“In many ways, I felt my job had been accomplished,” Livingston said in a statement. “With Geoff’s assistance and the expertise of our D.C.-based staff, we have substantially enhanced our social media expertise,” said Mike Mulvihill, CRT/tanaka president, adding that he looks forward to continuing working with Livingston as a consultant and “in possible future collaborative efforts.”
