Felons Create Powerful Brand Campaigns and PSAs through ‘Concepting with Convicts’

A good idea can come from anywhere.

Inspired by powerful pieces of art made by felons, Ben Pfutzenreuter and Pat Davis, with the help Marcus Lof, sent hundreds of emails through prison pen pal websites seeking people who might be interested in the project. “We realized that if we could contact convicts themselves, maybe we could also show them that their creative talents can translate into a real career on the outside,” Davis told PSFK.

Praytell Strategy announced that Elm Public Relations founder Beth Cleveland and her team have joined the Brooklyn-based integrated communications agency to expand its public relations services. Cleveland joins as a managing partner, merging Elm team members and client partners with Praytell’s. DDB California has recruited Justin Cox to be a new head of strategy. Cox previously worked at Pereira & O’Dell, where he spent approximately three years and last served as strategy director on accounts including Intel, Skype and Corona. During his career, Cox, who remains in the Bay Area, has also worked on the planning side at the likes of Razorfish on Levi’s, Sony and Microsoft and Publicis & Hal Riney on accounts ranging from Walmart to Beam. After nine months as CEO of Newsweek/Daily Beast, Baba Shetty has rejoined the ad industry, assuming the role of chief strategy and media officer at what is now DigitasLBi. Shetty will assume his role in mid-August and will work out of the Boston office, reporting directly to Digitas North America CEO, Tony Weisman. Prior to his most recent gig in the publishing world, Shetty spent seven years at fellow Boston-based agency Hill Holliday, where he last served as chief strategy officer. Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, Inc. announced the appointment of Renee Jordan as executive vice president and chief strategy officer for its business in the U.S. and Canada.
