PR Win: NYT Profiles Forbes Right Before It Goes Up for Sale

As Skift‘s Rafat Ali notes, this announcement comes less than a week after The New York Times ran a big profile of the business. Coincidence or great PR? We think you know the answer.

Hell, the headline reads “Preserving Venerable Forbes Brand, With an Aggressive Digital Drive”, and the article is all about how the Forbes native advertising program (which totally works, BTW), along with sponsored events and other new revenue streams, will increase its value as a standout in the floundering media field. From the second and eighth paragraphs:

Forbes Media’s 60-year-old soft-spoken and folksy chief executive…has spent the last three years transforming the company from a financially troubled family business into an enterprise that has moved aggressively to embrace the new digital landscape.

Forbes spokeswoman said that advertising revenue for Forbes.com would grow by 35 percent from 2010 to 2013

Roll Call: GCI Health, Genesis Media, NowThis News and Forbes

GCI Health, a New York-based agency specializing with an extensive roster of healthcare clients, has named Elliot Levy and Mary Kate Watkins to SVP roles. Levy, who has 10 years of experience in the healthcare communications field, will focus on corporate social responsibility efforts to coincide with the enactment of President Obama’s healthcare reform law. This is a return of sorts for Levy, who began his career as an account executive at the same firm almost a decade ago. In her new role, Watkins will use her own experience to expand the agency’s reach in the beauty, aesthetics and consumer health sectors. (PR Week)

Genesis Media announced the appointment of Melissa Bonnick as its new senior director of  advertising operations. In this role, Bonnick will be responsible for leading the development of Genesis Media’s advertising operations team. This includes the management of advertiser and publisher account implementation and management, campaign execution, new platform evaluation and business intelligence. Before joining Genesis Media, Bonnick was the director of advertising and sponsorships for I-play, an interactive gaming company. (Release)

Frank Kavilanz has been named senior vice president for Strategy and Business Development at NowThis News. Kavilanz comes from NBC News, where he was the vice president of strategy and partnership. NowThis News, which launched in September, is a video news network founded by Huffington Post vets Ken Lerer and Eric Hippeau which makes short, original videos and is looking to reinvent video news for the digital generation via social networks and strategic partnerships with legacy publications like The Atlantic and hot news sites like BuzzFeed and Mashable.
