Sean Eldridge, the investor, Democratic party fundraiser and husband of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, has hired media consulting firm SKDKnickerbocker to manage his recently announced 2014 campaign to represent New York’s 19th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Jennifer Cunningham, leader of SKDKnickerbocker’s New York team, also managed the 2012 campaign of Sean Patrick Maloney, the state’s first openly gay representative (Eldridge would be the second).

Active living brand prAna, known for its functional designs and progressive style, has selected Haberman of Minneapolis as its AOR in a competitive review. Haberman will handle public relations, social media and event management for the company as well as long-term marketing planning for prAna’s first Twin Cities location.

The new Minnesota store, slated to open in early November 2012 at 50th and France in Edina, joins five other retail prAna locations in Denver, Boulder, Santa Barbara, Portland and San Francisco.

Gap brand has eschewed established global agencies like stalwart Ogilvy for a host of agencies available on an as-needed basis. The shops including Peterson Milla Hooks and AKQA. PMH, a Minneapolis-based shop, has worked with Target, Kmart and JC Penney. Yet Gap and Ogilvy still maintain a relationship.

Gap spokeswoman Edie Kissko said,”Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide helped us tremendously over the last year in establishing the Gap brand ‘Be Bright’ platform, which we launched with our spring campaign… Ogilvy also created our fall ‘Icon Redefined’ campaign.”

Ogilvy PR has been chosen as AOR for the Standard Innovation Corporation, makers of the We-Vibe, a rechargeable couples vibrator and other “popular pleasure products.” Work will include media relations, events, and thought leadership. Oh really?

Li-Ning, a Chinese sports brand, has hired Fleishman-Hillard for corporate, brand, and digital outreach, as well as PR surrounding the 2012 London Olympics. The company is looking to go global, one of a handful of Chinese consumer brands with an international goal. [via]

Project SUCCESS, a Minneapolis-based youth organization, has chosen Haberman for outreach, messaging, marketing materials, and other PR duties. The organization has been around for 20 years.

The Big 12 Conference has chosen Hill+Knowlton Strategies as its AOR after a competitive search. Work will include brand positioning, media outreach, and stakeholder engagement. The account will be handled out of the Dallas office with help from Washington D.C. Competition in the Big 12 spans across 23 sports. Participating schools include Baylor University, Iowa State University, University of Kansas, and the University of Texas.

The McKnight Foundation, which supports policy reform across varying areas through grants and collaboration, has chosen Haberman for a comms program focused on its Collaborative Crop Research Program. This program supports farmers in “hunger hotspots” across South America and Africa. The firm works with clients that specialize in areas of philanthropy, public service, and otherwise “making a difference.”
