Roll Call: Pure Communications, Telemundo Media and Haberman

Pure Communications, Inc. announced the expansion of its senior leadership team with appointments to three new roles on the firm’s executive team. Pure has named Matthew Clawson to senior vice president/managing director of the agency’s investor relations/financial communications practice, Jennifer Torres to senior vice president/group director and Lauren Cohen to senior vice president. Based in Southern California, Matt Clawson brings more than 25 years of expertise in the investor relations and corporate communications fields, as well as deep experience in medical technology and diagnostics. Based in Chicago, Jennifer Torres brings nearly 20 years of experience creating and driving strategic corporate and brand initiatives for pharmaceutical and life sciences companies across a wide range of therapeutic categories. Based in Boston, senior vice president Lauren Cohen brings more than a decade of communications expertise primarily for pharmaceutical and biotech companies. In her role at Pure, Cohen will lead corporate and product communications programs for select Pure clients. (Release)

Telemundo Media announced today the appointment of Michael Guariglia to vice president, Network Sales. A seasoned sales leader, Guariglia will be responsible for overseeing the advertising sales function for Telemundo Network for the Northeast territory. Guariglia will report to Mike Alvarez, Senior Vice President, Ad Sales Telemundo Network and will be based in New York City. As the senior leader in the Northeast territory, Guariglia will work with top clients to develop integrated packages and programs to suit their needs. He will serve as the senior point of contact for clients and agencies in his territory, and will be responsible for negotiating top-tier deals. Guariglia will play an integral role in designing strategy and will be responsible for overseeing the regional sales team, as well as evaluating the performance of advertising sales programs. Sunny Fenton has joined Minneapolis-based marketing agency Haberman as business development director. Fenton was previously director of business development at Colle+McVoy; she has also worked for Minneapolis agencies Little & Company, Hunt Adkins and Carmichael Lynch, as well as Best Buy Corporation. The “modern storytellers” at Minneapolis, Minnesota’s Haberman just launched a campaign supporting their newest client, Schell’s Beer.

The campaign in question concerns “print, outdoor, radio and digital” materials emphasizing Schell’s status as the country’s second-oldest brewery and its German “craft” heritage.

The agency shared the creative on its site; while most of content is strictly advertising, the PR angle lies in positioning Schell’s as a longtime local and distinctly German brand. The messaging worked on us, though, because we just got incredibly thirsty. (Full disclosure: we love both beer and Fridays. It’s like we’re Irish or something.)

Roll Call: Rubenstein PR, UNICEF, Haberman and More

Rubenstein Public Relations has welcomed two new hires: Roxanne Ducas as director of communications and Katalin Bergou as an associate vice president. With a breadth of experience in media and public relations, both women bring extensive backgrounds in corporate communications to RPR’s team. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF announced the appointment of Jose Carbonell as senior vice president of marketing and communications. Leading a team of 34 people across six departments, Carbonell is responsible for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s brand, marketing and communications strategies. In his new role, Carbonell will focus on growing the U.S. Fund for UNICEF brand through digital and social media to keep it accessible for today’s youth and their families. Carbonell has more than 17 years of marketing experience. Most recently, Carbonell served as the vice president of marketing & strategic planning at Nickelodeon (a division of Viacom). At Nickelodeon, he led several cause-marketing initiatives, working with the Children’s Defense Fund, the PTA, and USA Gymnastics. He also championed marketing efforts for Nickelodeon’s highest profile shows. (Release)

Haberman announced that it has hired artist-turned-programmer Jesse Ross as director of digital technologies. He joins the agency from his previous role at Sevnthsin as senior developer and director of development. Ross has deep experience working on design and development for everything from open source projects to political campaigns to national advertising campaigns for Fortune 500 companies. Before Sevnthsin, he was an interactive designer for MRM Worldwide, one of the largest digital marketing firms in the world.(Release) Read more

Minneapolis-based Haberman will be AOR for Charity Aware, a “service initiative dedicated to inspiring youth to give back”. Haberman will help the org remake its website and develop new strategies for connecting teen volunteers with relevant area charities.

We can only hope that this partnership reaches teens who are more generous with their time than we were.

Biogenic Reagents’s mission is to produce renewable carbon products that perform better, cost less and have less impact on the environment than conventional products made from coal. The company recently announced the launch of its $30 million advanced biocarbon facility in Marquette, Michigan, the largest in North America.

Sean Eldridge, the investor, Democratic party fundraiser and husband of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, has hired media consulting firm SKDKnickerbocker to manage his recently announced 2014 campaign to represent New York’s 19th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Jennifer Cunningham, leader of SKDKnickerbocker’s New York team, also managed the 2012 campaign of Sean Patrick Maloney, the state’s first openly gay representative (Eldridge would be the second).

Active living brand prAna, known for its functional designs and progressive style, has selected Haberman of Minneapolis as its AOR in a competitive review. Haberman will handle public relations, social media and event management for the company as well as long-term marketing planning for prAna’s first Twin Cities location.

The new Minnesota store, slated to open in early November 2012 at 50th and France in Edina, joins five other retail prAna locations in Denver, Boulder, Santa Barbara, Portland and San Francisco.

Gap brand has eschewed established global agencies like stalwart Ogilvy for a host of agencies available on an as-needed basis. The shops including Peterson Milla Hooks and AKQA. PMH, a Minneapolis-based shop, has worked with Target, Kmart and JC Penney. Yet Gap and Ogilvy still maintain a relationship.

Gap spokeswoman Edie Kissko said,”Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide helped us tremendously over the last year in establishing the Gap brand ‘Be Bright’ platform, which we launched with our spring campaign… Ogilvy also created our fall ‘Icon Redefined’ campaign.”

Li-Ning, a Chinese sports brand, has hired Fleishman-Hillard for corporate, brand, and digital outreach, as well as PR surrounding the 2012 London Olympics. The company is looking to go global, one of a handful of Chinese consumer brands with an international goal. [via]

Project SUCCESS, a Minneapolis-based youth organization, has chosen Haberman for outreach, messaging, marketing materials, and other PR duties. The organization has been around for 20 years.

The Big 12 Conference has chosen Hill+Knowlton Strategies as its AOR after a competitive search. Work will include brand positioning, media outreach, and stakeholder engagement. The account will be handled out of the Dallas office with help from Washington D.C. Competition in the Big 12 spans across 23 sports. Participating schools include Baylor University, Iowa State University, University of Kansas, and the University of Texas.

The McKnight Foundation, which supports policy reform across varying areas through grants and collaboration, has chosen Haberman for a comms program focused on its Collaborative Crop Research Program. This program supports farmers in “hunger hotspots” across South America and Africa. The firm works with clients that specialize in areas of philanthropy, public service, and otherwise “making a difference.”
