Heather & Tony Podesta
GQ has published a list of its 50 most powerful people in Washington and a few spots are occupied by PR pros. At number 23 are Heather and Tony Podesta, who each run lobbying and government relations firms, Heather Podesta + Partners and Podesta Group respectively. Their blurb says they’ve raised $90 million during the Obama administration.
In at number 42 are Jayne Sandman and Barbara Martin from BrandlinkDC (technically two people, which raises the number of people on the list, but OK GQ). They’re joined in that slot by Brightest Young Things blogger Svetlana Legetic. Which raises the number one more, but who’s counting.
The New York Times has issued a correction on its recent story about BrandLinkDC:

An article on Dec. 26 about Jayne Sandman and Barbara Martin, who own the Washington public relations firm BrandLinkDC, referred incorrectly to the firm’s history. It was founded by several former employees of Fingerprint, another public relations firm; BrandLinkDC was not formerly known as Fingerprint, which still exists.

‘Tis the season for events, a topic we visited recently with Peppercom’s Maggie O’Neill, and one that the New York Times turns to in its gushing story about BrandLinkDC.
The article says the firm’s principals, Barbara Martin and Jayne Sandman, have managed to capitalize on the luxury companies heading to the D.C. area and the social scene that the Obama administration sets.
