Hill & Knowlton Adds Edelman and MS&L Vets To Healtchare Practice

If there is one thing for certain in today’s PR agency landscape, it’s that health-care PR executives are not staying put.

The latest changes come today from Hill & Knowlton, which named Susan Thiele as New York director of healthcare and Anne de Schweinitz as senior vice president of the agency’s European healthcare practice.

Theile was previously senior vice president and group head at Edelman. Schweinitz spent nearly 10 years at Manning Selvage & Lee, most recently as senior vice president, deputy practice director and global account director for the agency’s largest healthcare client, Eli Lilly and Company.

In related news, MS&L notably has lost a slew of health-care executives, including MaryEllen O’Donohue, who launched the agency’s first health-care media relations practice.

MS&L recently hired Jeanine O’Kane from Ogilvy PR to head up its health-care practice.

MS&L president Jim Tsokanos told PRNewser recently, “The reason why we hired [O'Kane] is we need to get growth again, and provide clients with the best thinking and best ideas. We wanted to bring in new blood.”

MS&L hired Joe Carberry away from Visa to oversee the San Francisco and Los Angeles offices of the global firm, a division of the Publicis Groupe. Carberry will report directly to Jim Tsokanos, head of MS&L North America.

At Visa, Carberry was head of global public affairs, in charge of reputation initiatives, and handled “media relations, digital media, grassroots campaigns, executive visibility and corporate image advertising,” according to the press release. “He also lead all communications activities related to global and corporate issues, including risk management, consumer and client issues, litigation and public policy.”

Before spending over 9 years at Visa, Carberry held posts at Fleishman-Hillard, and was Deputy Press Secretary to the Mayor of San Diego. His LinkedIn profile puts him at about 37.
