Americans, Annoyed By Voting, Voice Outrage on Twitter

What, you thought we wouldn’t post any more election stories today? To all our readers who already voted: how annoying/rewarding was the whole process? Was it worth the “voter’s high”? Is that even a thing?

Reminder: We live in a democracy, and just as we have a right to vote we also have a right–nay, an obligation–to bitch about it! Or to celebrate it! We can’t seem to decide! Here, then, is a collection of fun/inspiring/informative/borderline offensive tweets from Americans who just can’t help but express their complex relationship with the act of voting.

District 16 line here moving at a crawl while others moving fast. People angry, only one set of voting books sent. #chelsea #nyc

— Patrick LaForge (@palafo) November 6, 2012

The poll workers in NYC’s 35th district are abysmal. Line around the block and no one in voting booths. Mass confusion. — jennifer long (@jennifer_k_long) November 6, 2012

BTW, I agree with everyone who’s calling hours-long voting lines de facto poll taxes. We have to do way better than this. — Brooke Jarvis (@brookejarvis) November 6, 2012

Overheard while on line to vote in a no drama NYC site: I feel like I’m voting in Afghanistan” Ugh yfrog.com/hwzssucj yfrog.com/h36czhej — Sandra Guzman (@SandrasEpigram) November 6, 2012

How about some light humor?

Where’s the Music? MTV at 30

For those of us old enough to remember the first broadcast, it’s hard to believe MTV turned 30 years old today.

The channel is like a kid in a comic strip: it never ages, and as one gets older, its appeal fades. Most people from Generation X say they cannot not even sit though a whole episode of it’s number one runaway hit “Jersey Shore.” It doesn’t matter. Like the artist it made famous, Madonna, it is a cultural chameleon, changing itself all the time to attract that top demographic of 18- to 34-year-olds. Mashable says the channel ushered in an a new vehicle for spreading the word about new music.

“Almost overnight, the music video became one of the most important promotional and marketing vehicles for the music industry,” the site says. Others say it has not lost its edge or its brand, by continuing to offend older folks (Jackass, for example).

continued…

Trendier Than Justin Bieber? Yes, it’s Possible

Now that you have changed your Twitter password to avoid the acai-berry virus, let’s turn to the Year in Review via Twitter Trends.

Followers of Twitter Trends may have been surprised to learn from TechCrunch that of 25 million Tweets in 2010, not all of them were about badly-coiffed teen singer Justin Bieber.

What did dominate Twitter this year? The Gulf oil spill, FIFA World Cup, the movie Inception, and the Haitian earthquake, among other news stories.

continued…
