Tech Round Up: No More Kodak Cameras, Klout Mobilizes, Thenewsmarket Moves To the Cloud

Content provider thenewsmarket.com has received a big makeover, moving a lot of its storage to the cloud for faster downloads, says its maker Synaptic Digital. Both journalists and brands can access the site for video, B-roll, and other content from all over the world. The content covers the gamut, from former Taliban on peacekeeping missions, to earning reports and Super Bowl highlights.

In a strange bit of irony, the company that invented digital cameras in 1975 has announced it will stop producing digital cameras and digital photo frames in an effort to become solvent. Kodak filed for bankruptcy protection in January and is struggling to stay afloat.

Kodak chief comms officer Gerard Meuchner has stepped down from his post, The Wall Street Journal reports. A number of people have left the company, including three directors, as the company tries to sell or license some of its patents in the hopes of avoiding a bankruptcy filing. Kodak has been downgraded by Moody’s and the stock price was below 50 cents yesterday. Meuchner joined Kodak in 2000. It’s unclear where he’s heading.

Euro RSCG Worldwide PR has promoted Dalton Dorné to CMO of the firm. Dorné has been with the firm for four years, most recently serving as regional marketing director of Euro RSCG Asia Pacific in Singapore. In this new role, Dorné will launch the ERWW PR Marketing Council and serve as chief of staff to CEO Marian Salzman.

Matthew Henson has rejoined GolinHarris as executive director leading a number of accounts across the corporate communications space. He’ll be based in Boston but reporting to to Jennifer Cohan, MD in New York. Henson was with GH for nearly 10 years before leaving in 2009 to join Monster.

Goodman will build the reputation of Cohn’s accounting and auditing practice, the business investigation services team, and the Cohn Consulting Group. And it will position Cohn’s executives as experts on global market issues.

Wise PR has added four clients to its roster: Altitude Digital Partners, an advertising company for online publishers; FonGenie, a cloud-based business phone solutions company; Kiip, a mobile in-game advertising startup founded by teenage Brian Wong (!!); and Image Space Media, and advertising company that pairs brands with relevant images and video. Trey Songz Wants To Use His Kodak in the Jacuzzi

Last night, R&B artist Trey Songz and rappers Drake and Pitbull took the stage at New York City’s Best Buy Theater as part of the official launch of Kodak‘s “So Kodak” campaign.

“Make some noise for Kodak,” said Trey Songz at one point during his performance. He then went on to suggest that he would like to use a Kodak camera under water in a jacuzzi with a lucky young lady. Ooh la la.
