Connecticut Marketing to Focus on Business Development, Tourism

The Bee and Thistle Inn in Old Lyme

After two years with no budget, the state of Connecticut will develop a marketing and branding campaign for the state’s tourism and business development offerings.

The state announced today that it will spend $22 million over two years to market the state as a place to work and vacation. Connecticut’s Office of Tourism has assembled a marketing team led by Chowder, which specializes in travel marketing and advertising, and including Fleishman-Hillard, Media Storm, and research and marketing firm The Harrison Group.

Angela Wonson has joined Weber Shandwick as EVP of healthcare media. She will be based in New York, reporting to Barbara Box, president of the New York and Chicago healthcare practice. Previously Wonson was SVP of the national health media practice at Edelman. Wonson has 20 years of experience including comms work at NBC and other organizations.

Carmichael Lynch Spong has added two to its staff. Angela Miller has joined the New York office as senior counselor working on media relations strategy for clients Trane and Sherwin-Williams. Prior to joining the firm, she was an account supervisor at Fleishman-Hillard.  And Meredith Kisch has joined as senior media relations manager working with Martek Biosciences, H&R Block, and Lutron. She was previously a senior account supervisor at Hill & Knowlton.

Roll Call: True Religion, Dewey Square, R/GA, and More

Denim company True Religion Apparel has a new VP of brand strategy, marketing, and PR. Jordan Daly has joined the company, and will be managing brand positioning, campaigns, special events, and other areas of the marcomms effort on a global scale. Previously, Daly was the VP of PR in the Americas for Burberry.

Joe Eyer has been named director of The Dewey Square Group‘s new director of grassroots. Eyer has been with the firm for six years and was previously a principal in the group. The division also has two new principals. Tracey Lewis was the New Hampshire field director for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her 2008 presidential run and the general election director for President Obama’s New Hampshire campaign. And Jonathan Drobis, who has worked on a number of political campaigns, including President Obama’s and AG Jack Conway‘s campaign for Senate in Kentucky.
