For a variety of reasons, the PR issues around the Gulf Coast oil spill are about to get a lot worse.

Notably, an NPR report released today reveals that the amount of oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico is at least 10 times the size of official estimates.

Also, as Politico’s Mike Allen reports, “From a P.R. standpoint, the worst could be yet to come: The oil hasn’t started rushing ashore.”

In addition, CBS’ “60 Minutes” is promoting an exclusive interview to air this Sunday with Michael Williams, chief electronics technician on the oil platform, who jumped into the water after the explosion and was rescued.

“All the things that they told us could never happen, happened. You know, on a daily basis, we were told, ‘We’re going to send you home better than the day you got here. It wasn’t true that day,” he told “60 Minutes.”
