Mika Brzezinski Loved Miley’s Performance at the VMAs

“That was not attractive. That was not fun, that was not funny. That was really, really bad for anyone who’s younger and impressionable.”

Here are some other words and phrases Morning Joe‘s Mika Brzenzinski used to describe last night’s epic Miley Cyrus VMAs twerk-off:

“disturbing”; “disgusting”; ”embarrassing”; ”really messed up”; ”pathetic”; “desperate”; “sick”

Now that Mika told us what she really thinks, we have to thank her: we know all we needed to know about the VMAs and we haven’t even scrolled through the GIFs on Reddit today.

Miley’s publicist should include each of these quotes in her next press release, because she earned the hell out of that media. Now let us never speak of it again.

Tina Brown Stands By Princess Diana Cover

The cover of Newsweek featuring a revived Princess Diana walking with the new Duchess Kate Middleton had many creeped out and asking whether it’s in “poor taste.” There was also talk of zombies, low-quality journalism, and even lower-quality Photoshopping.

Nonetheless, Tina Brown stands by the cover and the story, calling it “intriguing” and “very effective.” In an appearance on Morning Joe, she focused on the debate that the image (and others that were featured, including Di holding an iPhone) touched off rather than the ultimate appropriateness of the feature.

Mediaite interprets it as: “Sure, some people are saying they hate it but, hey, at least they’re saying the name Newsweek, right?”

Strange Brew Blending on ‘Morning Joe’

Wayne’s World has been making the cable rounds recently. At one point in the movie Wayne is forced to interview a major advertiser on his show. Wayne was happy to do it….NOT!

This morning, I see an Ad Age article that seems eerily familiar to that very subplot. MSNBC’s Morning Joe,which has quite the lucrative sponsorhsip deal with Starbucks, had the company’s CEO Howard Schultz on for seven minutes to talk about the coffee giant’s 40th anniversary. In TV terms, seven minutes is a lifetime. There were bags of brew on set and honestly, I was surprised they didn’t do the shoot “on location” at a Starbucks near 30 Rock to have Mika’s favorite barista in the background brewing a macchiato for her.

This is unethical. And as many of you know, I ain’t the first person to bring this up. But Ad Age vacillated with the issue in its article.
