Neil Patrick Harris: ‘A Kiss from Burt Reynolds Made Me Gay’

Neil-Patrick-Harris_Burt-Reynolds

It’s not like a kiss from a 70s sex symbol is as contagious as Ebola, but if you ask the new host of the Oscars, Neil Patrick Harris knew he was gay following a kiss from Burt Reynolds.

Somewhere Dom DeLuise is shouting at Sally Field (they’re both of Smokey and the Bandit fame for all you young’uns out there) saying, “Girl, I know the feeling.”

Neil Patrick Harris Is the Best, Makes a Video to Promote His New Book

Neil Patrick Harris is a national treasure. And now with his new autobiography, Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography, we can all take a piece of him home with us.

To promote the book, NPH has made a video clip in which he shows the depth and breadth of his talents. Watch him take shots of rubbing alcohol! Watch him eat a piece of spaghetti with his hubby David Burtka like Lady and the Tramp (aww)! Listen to him do the warm up that he used to go through when he was in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”! Oh my goodness, there is so much NPH.

Book trailers have been a thing for a while now, a great way for those authors with good screen presence to make a video clip that can get passed around and add to the usual routes for book publicity. A television star with Tony and Emmy awards on his mantle, years of screen experience, charm and a cute husband… this could only be a marketing win.

The book will be for sale on October 14.

Bono Becomes the Voice of ‘Spider-Man’ Musical

Tonight is opening night for the troubled musical monstrosity “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” and the musical is pulling out the big guns to generate some positive mojo. Yes, Bono speaks and he’s been talking with The New York Times, was at the Tony Awards ceremony with The Edge (who also worked on the show), and the two stars, leads of arguably the biggest band in the world right now, turned up last night at the 92nd St Y to talk about the show. Not Madison Square Garden. The Y.

And what he’s saying is he loves it… now.

“The first time I loved ‘Spider-Man’ was two and a half weeks ago,” he told the Times.

In Third Year, Shorty Awards Get Longer

Aasif Mandvi, host of this year's Shorty Awards

What a difference a year makes. Last year the Shorty Awards — dedicated to honoring the best producers of short, real-time content — had CNN anchor Rick Sanchez as host. This year, Sanchez is long gone from CNN, and in his place was Aasif Mandvi of the Daily Show.

The significance wasn’t lost on Mandvi, as the Daily Show was right in the middle of things when Sanchez was dismissed from CNN last fall. “You all must really hate Rick Sanchez,” Mandvi joked, insinuating it was a slap in the face for Sanchez to have someone  from the Daily Show hosting.

Mandvi also poked a bit of fun at the awards themselves, as he joked that they are “the most relevant awards show ever,” and said, “Let me be honest. I’m only here to increase my Twitter followers.”

That being said, in their third year, the Shorty Awards have only gotten bigger (and longer).
