Ketchum, Weber Shandwick Lead the SABRE Tally with Eight

The Holmes Report packed them in at Cipriani’s last night for the SABRE Awards dinner. PR firms came out in full force for the event where Ketchum and Weber Shandwick took the most awards for the night with eight. Weber shared the Platinum SABRE Award with Edelman and PepsiCo for Pepsi’s Refresh campaign, the company’s big social media CSR initiative. Among the awards Ketchum took home were for CSR with its client FedEX and for product media relations targeting trade media for client Navistar.

Other winners for the night were Glover Park Group in the public affairs category, MSLGroup for its work with Pepto-Bismol in the single special event category, and WPP with Ford Motor Company in the trade show category. A full list of Gold and Silver award winners is available here.

Interview: Ray Day, VP Communications, Ford Motor Company

PRNewser caught up with Ford VP, Communications Ray Day at the New York International Auto Show press preview day yesterday. Ford announced a partnership with Microsoft at the event.

While Ford CEO Alan Mulally was doing a number of TV hits just a few feet away, we spoke with Day about how Ford’s marketing and PR efforts have evolved over the more than 20 years that he’s been at the company. “There’s no longer two separate worlds,” he said, referring to PR and marketing. “It’s all about communications.”

Ford’s internal PR team is 200 strong, and the company works with WPP agencies Burson-Marsteller, Direct Impact, Hill & Knowlton and Ogilvy PR.

Ford PR Hires WSJ Automotive Reporter John Stoll

First on PRNewser: Ford has hired Wall Street Journal reporter John Stoll as Manager, Global Corporate News. Stoll covered General Motors for the past several years and covered Ford while at Dow Jones Newswires before his stint at the Journal.

Stoll will “take on direct oversight of our Financial News communications, working with the Communications team around the world, as well as Lewis Booth and our colleagues in Finance, Treasury and Investor Relations,” said Ford VP of Communications Ray Day in an email to staff obtained by PRNewser.

Ford’s well known social media guru – technically “Manager, Global Digital and Multimedia Communications” Scott Monty, will report to Stoll.
