Samsung, currently focusing on its global b-to-b marketing strategy,  added two new shops to manage advertising responsibilities. Samsung chose WPP, which will create a team specifically to handle the account; the company also selected Publicis Groupe-owned Razorfish as its new digital agency of record in an unrelated deal.

Brian Wallace, Samsung’s VP of marketing, explains, “We picked Razorfish as our digital AOR because they demonstrate the innovative thinking that we value in our agencies. We know Razorfish understands how to translate complex issues into unique and engaging customer experiences.”

Rubenstein Public Relations also announced new client wins including World Business Lenders, FiREapps and Mr. Omer Ozden. CEO Richard Rubenstein said, “Representing these leaders in the finance and real estate markets underscores our continued expansion into the business, financial and real estate public relations sectors. We are increasingly assisting more clients in elevating their profiles and business strategies by securing strategic, brand-building media coverage.”

After a lengthy review, Sears Holdings decided to retain Havas’ MPG as its top media agency. The decision means that the national marketing juggernaut, which spends heavily on advertising, will continue its relationship with MPG, which began in 2007. It also means that MPG will retain one of its most important accounts, which includes the Kmart and Sears brands.

Hyundai’s dedicated shop, Innocean, has secured its first non-auto client in the U.S. FootJoy, the maker of performance-wear golf products, hired the company to launch a repositioning campaign that includes social media, TV and digital responsibilities.

Rob Kelley, FootJoy’s director of brand marketing, explained that Innocean “demonstrated a deep understanding of the game, our business and the ability to capture the consumer’s attention through fully integrated campaigns across all channels, just a few of the factors that led to their selection in this review process.”

The FDA has selected six agencies to work on its anti-smoking educational campaigns. The agencies, which will support different responsibilities under the new effort, include Interpublic Group‘s Campbell-Ewald, True North Communications, Mullen Communications, WPP’s Grey Global Group, the independent agency Riester and the American Legacy Foundation. Some agencies will allocate work to agency partners. The campaigns are mostly funded by tax-like fees from tobacco companies, which collectively involve a maximum of $390 million awarded over five years. Read more

Rubenstein PR Handling Tavern On The Green Auction; Adds Two VPs

Rubenstein Public Relations has retained auction house Guernsey’s for work leading up to the closure of legendary New York City restaurant Tavern on the Green. The restaurant will close on January 1st, 2010. Rubenstein is promoting, “an extensive auction of nostalgic, one-of-a-kind pieces from the famed New York City restaurant.”

“We are focusing on generating national and international media exposure on this historic auction and will be organizing a comprehensive schedule of journalists to tour the site…” said Richard Rubenstein [pictured] in a statement.

The agency highlighted “pre-auction coverage” that includes includes three New York Times articles and feature articles in the New York Post, Associated Press and Crain’s New York Business.

In other Rubenstein PR news, John McCook will return to the agency as Senior Vice President after a stint as a director in the brand marketing practice of Burson-Marsteller. In addition, Kari Neering, formerly Director of PR at Massey Knakal Realty Services in New York City, joins the agency as an associate vice president in its real estate department.
