Today in Tiger Woods PR Advice Givers

After several weeks, more and more PR executives of all stripes are beginning to learn this simple formula: offering to talk about Tiger Woods equals getting booked to do so on TV. Today’s appearances include Flatiron Communications Founder Peter Himler on APTV. “I don’t think he has much more to do, for the moment,” Himler said.

Empower PR CEO Sam Chapman scored an appearance on Chicago’s WGN. “I think he needs to sit down with Oprah Winfrey and have a coming to Jesus over his sexual behavior” Chapman said, when asked if Woods should do a high profile TV interview to help his case.

That being said, the story does continue to develop, as just yesterday Accenture announced it would drop Woods as a spokesperson, while Nike promises to stand by him. Woods also announced he will take a hiatus from the PGA Tour.

Empower PR Gets Press For Its “No-Gossip” Zone

Gossip is commonplace at just about every office, but one PR firm is trying to put the kibosh on chatty employees. Chicago’s Empower PR sounds like they have a unique office:

Lunch is ordered in to the office every day. Their break room is Starbucks-quality. There is a corner where you can work off your frustrations by hitting a pillow with a bat, and there is a rule that BlackBerrys get turned off at 5 p.m. Crying is encouraged.

But the fact that CEO Sam Chapman has banned office gossip, setting up a “no-gossip zone” and making it a fire-able offense has garnered attention. “At first, I was really unsure of how to speak, what to think,” said one employee. Conveniently, Chapman has a book out, The No Gossip Zone: A No-Nonsense Guide to a Healthy, High-Performing Work Environment. Serena van der Woodsen wouldn’t last a day in Empower’s offices.
