Roll Call: SparkPR, Schwartz Media Strategies and The Marshall Project

SparkPR announced the appointment of six prominent executives within its New York and San Francisco offices who are leading new practice areas and further diversifying Sparkpr’s service offerings. Sparkpr has hired and promoted the following executives to take the helm of new practice or service areas in the New York office: Jay Kolbe, managing director, Digital Ad/Marketing; Gregory Papajohn, managing director, Financial Tech & Social Innovation; Linda Chung, director, Broadcast Relations. Schwartz Media Strategies has named vice president Aaron Gordon a partner. Gordon joined Schwartz Media Strategies in early 2008 and has since been instrumental in expanding the firm’s capabilities and client base in key practice areas reflecting the sectors driving Florida’s economy, including real estate, banking, technology, finance, hospitality, law, municipal affairs and arts and culture. He has led several new business initiatives and helps create and manage media relations, marketing and digital media campaigns. The past year has seen Gordon oversee the launch of the firm’s new website and popular Soundbytes blog. (Release)

Gabriel Dance, the award-winning interactive editor of The Guardian U.S., will join The Marshall Project as managing editor in charge of digital journalism. In his work for The Guardian, and earlier for The New York Times, Dance has won or shared in the highest honors awarded to visual and interactive journalism. They include an Emmy and an Alfred L. Dupont award in 2011 for the story of a year at war with a single infantry unit deployed in Afghanistan; several Online News Association awards; six awards from Malofiej, the premier information graphics competition; and six from the Society for News Design. Dance’s interactive contribution to The Guardian’s coverage of National Security Agency surveillance has won the highest award from the Society for News Design and a World Press Photo award. Fenton appointed Susan McPherson as Senior Vice President in its New York office. McPherson will further develop the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility practice, which has a long tradition of working to align companies’ business practices with a commitment to the public interest. (Release)

We Are Social, the world’s largest independent social media agency, added two senior members to its fast-growing New York office. Layla Revis joins the agency as senior director, working on a range of fashion and luxury accounts. She was previously vice president at social@Ogilvy, part of Ogilvy & Mather. Erin Dorr comes on board as account director, focusing on sports and lifestyle brands.  She joins We Are Social from Dachis Group, where she managed social media and advocacy programs for clients such as Nestle, U.S. Cellular, HP and Kodak. Roll Call: Financial Services Forum, Porter Novelli, and More

The comms director for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-Va.), Laena Fallon is leaving her post to become the VP of comms for the Financial Services Forum (FSF) in August. FSF is an advocacy group comprised of the CEOs of 20 large banks, including Goldman Sachs’ Lloyd Blankfein and JP Morgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon. [via, h/t]

Rich Jernstedt (pictured) has joined Porter Novelli as a senior counselor in the firm’s Chicago office. Jernstedt was previously EVP and senior partner at Fleishman-Hillard. He left the firm a year ago to start his own agency, The Jernstedt Company. Prior to F-H, he spent 26 years with GolinHarris. Porter Novelli has had a number of executive departures over recent months.

Warschawski, a branding, PR, and advertising agency, has been chosen to strengthen the presence of Presence Switzerland and ThinkSwiss here in the U.S. Presence Switzerland is the Swiss outreach organization and ThinkSwiss is its U.S. program, which handles activities and events. In addition to other comms duties, Warchawski will help with a revamped website.

Syndicate Media Group has been chosen as AOR to launch Caliche Rum, a white rum produced by rum maker Roberto Serrallés and hospitality businessman (and Cindy Crawford hubby) Rande Gerber. The firm will work on social media strategy, events and sponsorships, partnerships, and more. Caliche Rum will launch during the first quarter of 2012 in Miami, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, and Chicago.

The Electric Drive Transportation Association has selected Fenton to help promote next-gen electric cars. Fenton was also hired by Enerkem, a company that recycles carbon from municipal trash into fuel, and socially-responsible clothing brand Alta Gracia.

Trilantic Capital Partners,  a $4 billion private equity fund formed following a buyout from the Lehman Brothers estate, has selected CJP Communications for PR services.

Schwartz Media Strategies has been selected to promote the University of Miami Life Science & Technology Park, which is slated for completion mid-2011.

Health and wellness company Capsalus has chosen The Star Group as AOR.
