Debate Rages Over Pepsi Skinny Can Ad

Sofia Vergara, the voluptuous star of the TV show Modern Family, is the face of Diet Pepsi’s new Skinny Can. Actually, it’s just the small portion of her face you can see poking out from behind a floppy blue hat. Still, the ads and their choice of spokesperson are getting hit with tons of criticism.

Adrants quotes Pepsi’s CMO Jill Beraud who says: “Our slim, attractive new can is the perfect complement to today’s most stylish looks, and we’re excited to throw its coming-out party during the biggest celebration of innovative design in the world.”

In the same story, the National Eating Disorders Association is quoted calling Pepsi’s comments “thoughtless and irresponsible.”

Simon Doonan Taking His Snooki Coverage to Slate

simon.jpg Simon Doonan, the Barneys creative director and New York Observer columnist who recently revealed a possible Snooki scandal, is taking his musings to Slate.

Doonan’s departure adds to the list of editorial staff members who have left the paper in recent weeks. Among them, Alexandra Jacobs who took a job as an editor in the Styles section at the New York Times, and Eliot Brown, who will cover Albany for the Wall Street Journal.

Brands Falling Victim to Snooki Sabotage

snooki.jpgNormally, fashion brands can’t get enough of seeing celebrities wearing their labels. But as we all know, the Jersey Shore cast steers a little left of normal.

Labels are taking steps to make sure that if the reality show’s star Snooki is sighted, their handbags are not. New York Observer columnist and Barney’s creative director Simon Doonan says labels are sending Snooki bags… from other labels.

“Allegedly, the anxious folks at these various luxury houses are all aggressively gifting our gal Snookums with free bags. No surprise, right? But here’s the shocker: They are not sending her their own bags. They are sending her each other’s bags! Competitors’ bags!” writes Doonan.

Doonan adds that this “unbranding” is happening because no one in fashion wants to co-brand with the reality star celeb. Marketers are now on the look out to see if they’ve been “Snooked.”
