Susan Blond: My First Big Break

How many people can say their career launched the day they met Andy Warhol? In the latest episode of mediabistroTV’s “My First Big Break”, we talk to the legendary Susan Blond, the most famous person you’ve never heard of.

The New York City based PR maven was once the “It Girl” of Warhol’s party playland that was New York in the 70s. Painting, starring in Warhol’s films, appearing in an erotic public access series, being named the first female VP at CBS Records and finally opening her own PR Company, Blond was wild and knew how to network. Selfishly, we at mediabistroTV are also excited that she brought us just two degrees of separation away from Kevin Bacon!

Susan Blond Helps You Get Ready for Spring

It doesn’t seem like it (at least not to us here in NYC), but it’s springtime. Susan Blond offers up some priceless tips here to help you get ready. A couple that stand out: Be careful about what you order when dining al fresco. “You don’t want to look like a pig.” And “call your friends with beach houses” ASAP.

Julia Allison, the ubiquitous Web personality and columnist, has hired her first PR agency. One South By Southwest (SXSW) attendee who was present at an event with Allison at the Fast Company Grill yesterday tells PRNewser she announced a new relationship with Susan Blond‘s agency.

Allison is not working with the legendary Blond herself, but rather another publicist at the agency.

Susan Blond Rocks the Holiday Party

We’re becoming very fond of Blond Tips, the video series by old school publicist Susan Blond. In her most recent edition, Blond doles out the obvious on holiday parties with a delivery as smooth as egg nog: look good, stow your iPhone, and don’t talk about where else you’d rather be.  She hangs all the bad stuff on one young “actor” we can’t identify.  Said d-bag downs several vodkas before sneaking off with his female co-worker. “No matter how good someone looks tonight, you have to look them in the face tomorrow,” she advises.

UPDATES:  The d-bag in the video is not a Susan Blond employee.  He’s a friend of a staffer.  And yes, that’s a real Keith Haring above Blond’s desk.

Kick It at the Beach, the Susan Blond Way

The latest edition of Blond Tips has publicist Susan Blond with two young bumbling men to illustrate her tips for making a splash at the beach this weekend. Make an impression with your accessories, don’t talk on the phone, and most of all strut your stuff. “When you get out of the water, the whole beach is watching. So make it dramatic.” You go Susan.

Media Beat: Kelly Cutrone Says Those Entering Fashion PR ‘Have To Be Willing To Pay Their Dues’

For all of the aspiring publicists out there looking to make a splash in the high profile world of fashion and entertainment PR, remember this: success doesn’t come overnight.

In our latest Media Beat segment with People’s Revolution founder Kelly Cutrone, she says those looking to enter the industry “have to be willing to pay their dues.”

Cutrone sure did. “I learned a lot from being her submissive assistant and doing whatever she asked,” she says of her days starting off with legendary publicist Susan Blond.
