Syndicate Media Group has announced the promotion of Samantha Kain to the position of managing director. In her new role, Kain will oversee team management and client profitability in the agency’s 27 -person New York office. She will also work closely with Syndicate’s Los Angeles office to manage national accounts and the agency’s new business team to develop new client opportunities. In addition, Samantha continues to hold the title of associate partner. (Release)

GolinHarris has appointed award-winning Chicago Tribune science and healthcare journalist Trine Tsouderos as healthcare media director. Tsouderos joined the Tribune in 2003, and she has written about science and medicine since 2009. Before joining the Tribune, Tsouderos wrote for People Magazine, The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville and The Wilson Daily Times in Wilson, N.C. Tsouderos will be based in Chicago. (Release)

BuzzFeed has hired Ze Frank. Frank will work to continue the company’s growth through online video, building a team of video producers in Los Angeles and establishing a studio to create content native to the social web. The acquisition and hire are effective immediately–Frank will work with BuzzFeed’s existing teams to produce viral hits inspired by BuzzFeed posts like “The Angriest Babies In The Whole World,” “How To Restore Your Faith In Humanity,” and “What Is Your Worst Pet Peeve?” He will also develop new YouTube channels covering a wider range of topics and collaborate with BuzzFeed’s social advertising clients on branded content. Erin Felentzer is moving from ABC to TNT, where she will serve as the new VP of public relations, overseeing all publicity for TNT and its original programming including “Dallas” and “Major Crimes.” During the decade she spent with ABC Entertainment Group, Felentzer served as director of media relations and director of publicity, working on campaigns for ABC series including “Desperate Housewives“, “Lost” and “Ugly Betty“; she most recently served as VP of communications. Warschawski, a branding, PR, and advertising agency, has been chosen to strengthen the presence of Presence Switzerland and ThinkSwiss here in the U.S. Presence Switzerland is the Swiss outreach organization and ThinkSwiss is its U.S. program, which handles activities and events. In addition to other comms duties, Warchawski will help with a revamped website.

Syndicate Media Group has been chosen as AOR to launch Caliche Rum, a white rum produced by rum maker Roberto Serrallés and hospitality businessman (and Cindy Crawford hubby) Rande Gerber. The firm will work on social media strategy, events and sponsorships, partnerships, and more. Caliche Rum will launch during the first quarter of 2012 in Miami, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, and Chicago.

Evian has chosen Syndicate Media Group as its U.S. AOR handling public relations and social media work. According to the press release, the RFP included three other firms who were asked how they would have operated given a set of real Evian initiatives. Or, they were asked to propose new campaigns. Syndicate chose the latter. The firm will be working with the other Evian agencies – MKG, MPG/Mediacontacts, and Euro RSCG — and work will begin in the fourth quarter.

The Girl Scouts have chosen Edelman to lead its centennial PR efforts in 2012. The firm’s work will include media relations, consumer engagement, social media and issues management surrounding topics of importance to girls. The online initiatives will have a shelf life through 2013. CRT/tanaka will continue as AOR for the Girl Scouts providing crisis counsel and helping with centennial efforts.

Platinum Studios, which owns a number of comic book characters used in movies, merchandising, and other entertainment ventures, has chosen B|W|R Public Relations to promote the company and its projects. They’ve already scored a media hit on Fox News for Cowboys & Aliens, which started as a Platinum Studios comic.

New Mexico’s state tourism department has decided to search for new advertising and PR agencies. According to the AP, the state’s Tourism Secretary Monique Jacobson has confirmed that they will sever ties with M&C Saatchi in L.A. (advertising) and Development Counsellors International (PR) based in New York and issue RFPs next week. The PR account will be worth $120,000 per year. The goal is for the state to move into the top three on the list of places to visit in the nation, Jacobson said.
