Waggener Edstrom Worldwide announced that Arisbe Gardner has joined the agency as vice president of public affairs in its Washington, D.C., office. Gardner brings more than a dozen years of communications and public affairs experience to the agency, including more than nine years as a consultant to government agencies on issues including cybersecurity and pandemics and more than three years as a legislative staffer for two members of Congress. In her new role, Gardner will support the public affairs practice’s efforts to continue to grow the agency’s presence in the D.C. area. She will also collaborate with colleagues to engage clients in the technology, health and wellness, economy and business, and energy and environment sectors. (Release)

MWW announced that Kas Rigas was promoted to managing director of the firm’s award-winning consumer lifestyle marketing practice. Since joining MWW as senior vice president in 2010, Rigas has been an integral part of the consumer team, significantly contributing to the growth of MWW’s work in the health and wellness, automotive and travel sectors. She provides leadership and strategic counsel to a number of the firm’s top consumer lifestyle marketing accounts including Leggett & Platt, Atkins Nutritionals™, Subaru of America, Product of the Year USA, Aetrex, Frontier Airlines and Luxury Retreats. Fandango.com has hired Sandro Corsaro to be its new chief creative executive. Corsaro was most recently the creator and executive producer of Disney XD animated series Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil. He has also served as creative director for Disney Interactive, where he oversaw two full relaunches of disney.com. Fandango has so far produced two digital video series – the film awards season chronicle The Frontrunners and new releases preview Weekend Ticket. (FishbowlLA)

Ketchum has promoted partner Amanda Sefton to director of its Global Healthcare Practice. Ms. Sefton will remain in London and will assume her new role on Dec. 1. During the transition, she will continue serving as managing director of the London Healthcare Practice. A search is underway for her successor in that role. (Release)

MSLGROUP North America has named Shellie Winkler as North America practice director of its health and corporate practices. With more than two decades of experience, Winkler most recently worked at Edelman, where she was general manager of corporate and public affairs operations for the New York office.  She is located at MSL New York, the flagship office for MSLGROUP North America (Release)

Waggener Edstrom Worldwide (WE) has hired Ben Finzel as senior vice president, public affairs and general manager of the Washington, D.C., office. Finzel brings more than 20 years of communications and public affairs experience to the agency, including a presidential appointment during the Clinton administration and nearly six years as a press and legislative staffer for two members of Congress. Finzel will lead the firm’s Public Affairs practice, a Washington, D.C.-based group that manages complex policy issues, leads high-profile campaigns, and drives business results for corporate clients, trade associations and advocacy groups. Waggener Edstrom Acquires Munich Firm

Waggener Edstrom Worldwide has acquired Patzer PR, a Munich-based firm specializing in healthcare PR and services for the OTC pharmaceutical industry. Patzer will keep its name for the time being, but the team will be pulled into WE’s existing renewable energy, tech, and healthcare groups. Patzer is among the most recognized healthcare PR firms in Germany.

The move will double the size of Waggener Edstrom’s Munich office.

In March, the firm entered the South Korean market with an investment in Shout. The firm has also expanded in Australia, Belgium, and South Africa.

Waggener Edstrom Expands to South Korea

Waggener Edstrom Worldwide has invested in Shout Communications Korea, marking WagEd’s expansion into the Korean market.

Shout Communications Korea was founded in 2003 and has 50 consultants on staff. It specializes in PR and marketing services including strategic comms and event management.

WE Partners with Mercy Corps and Batonga Foundation for Women’s Initiative

This week, Waggener Edstrom Worldwide announced its partnership with Mercy Corps and the Batonga Foundation for the “Empowering Ethiopian Women and Girls for Peaceful Change” project.  Melissa Waggener Zorkin, WE’s CEO and president attended this week’s Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting to announce the initiative. The firm’s effort will “empower approximately 450 underprivileged but entrepreneurial girls, women and their families in the Derashe and Konso districts of southern Ethiopia over the next four years,” Zorkin said in the announcement press release. Together, the groups will reach 800 women and girls.

Mercy Corps works in communities around the world to alleviate poverty and provide communities with tools, skills, and support. Batonga supports education efforts for girls in Africa.

The joint effort will give young women in Ethiopia the chance to graduate from secondary school. According to the essay about the partnership, young women make up less than one-third of the enrollment in southern Ethiopia at the secondary school level.

Moede Named WE EVP of North America

JennyMoede.jpg Waggener Edstrom Worldwide has promoted Jenny Moede to EVP of the North America region. She will oversee client satisfaction and growth in WE’s various practice areas, including healthcare, where she was previously EVP. She will be based in the Portland, OR office reporting to Claire Lematta, president of global regions.

In addition, SVP Colleen Beauregard will now lead the healthcare practice while continuing in her role as the GM of the Cambridge, MA office.

And Kimberly Davis, SVP with the firm, will now lead the tech practice. She is in the Portland, OR office and is currently heading up the BMC Software account.
