Wendy Williams Takes A Ton of Social Media Hits After Aaliyah Lifetime Biopic

aaliyah biopicAll the world loves a Lifetime movie. The stories are never too complex, no matter the issues they may touch upon. If you miss the first 30 minutes, that’s all right. The stories are such that you can catch up pretty easily. And most viewers don’t have particularly high expectations. So if the movie is even halfway decent, you walk away a satisfied viewer. The movie has to be darn awful for people to raise a stink.

That’s exactly what happened after the network aired its biopic Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B this weekend, which focused on the star who was killed in a plane crash at the age of 22 in 2001. And viewers didn’t just lash out at Lifetime for broadcasting a garbage movie. They went all the way off on Wendy Williams for producing it. She was even trending for a while on Saturday night.

Wendy Williams Gives Some Really Unfortunate Relationship Advice

Wendy Williams

How you doin’? Not so well after this interview.

Wendy Williams usually stays away from PR firestorms, but in this case the heat was a little too alluring for her–so she dove right in the deep end. On a recent episode of her talk show, Williams talked to a woman unhappy with just one child because her husband of six years promised they would have two.

To wit, Wendy says, “Men have never been in control of our bodies” and proceeds to tell her that it would be okay to trick him into getting her pregnant. As if that wasn’t classy enough, she conducts a quick audience poll because that’s scientific and unbiased with a big, glaring *APPLAUSE* looming overhead.

Are We All ‘Bullies’ Now?

Google the words “Biden bully” today and you’ll see a surfeit of defensive responses to last night’s debate, which most polls found to be a moderate win for the current Vice President. (We’re not sure how we’d come down on that issue, but it was certainly more entertaining than last week’s snooze-fest.)

But is this really the appropriate response to a debate between political candidates? Has anyone seen how they do things overseas? Check out Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s bombastic rant labeling opposition leader Tony Abbot a misogynist and a hypocrite if you really want to see a politician on the receiving end of an epic beat down.

Even The Wall Street Journal op-ed page ran an article titled “The Bully vs. The Wonk.” We get it—your editorial team doesn’t much care for the Democratic Party. In other shocking revelations, we hear that fire is hot and water is wet. We’re not saying Biden didn’t show obvious contempt for his opponent, but is The Wall Street Journal seriously arguing that debates should be more respectful? Of course not–they’re just making up for the fact that their guy got pummeled, and this is the best line they could come up with. But wait, don’t both sides do it? Of course they do. In fact, we’re a little surprised we didn’t notice anyone calling Mitt Romney a “bully” last week.

So let’s consider: Has the word lost all meaning?

Here’s another example: We all cheered for newscaster Jennifer Livingston when she called out the man who had the audacity to fatshame her, but was “bully” really the right word for him?
