Yoko Ono’s Menswear Line Is a Brilliant PR Stunt

Yoko Ono Opening CeremonyYoko Ono: abstract artist, obtuse celebrity, Beatles wife, woman who claims to have “so much love because the whole world hated me”. She’s not really known for subtlety, is she?

Neither is the eccentric fashion/retail brand Opening Ceremony, which recently debuted a line of menswear designed by none other than Ms. Ono herself. Is it every bit as weird as you’d imagine? Oh yeah. The two might just be a perfect pair!

The line, creatively titled “Yoko Ono’s Fashions for Men 1969-2012″, consists of a bunch of…let’s say eccentric coats, shirts, kneepads, open-toe thigh high boots (for men, mind you) and the “lightbulb bra” pictured at left. We can’t claim to be fashion experts, but we wonder: What are the handprints all about, other than Ono’s unceasing desire to grab crotches? We don’t even know what to say about the “butt hoodie“…

This is all more than a little ridiculous, and Ono’s explanation doesn’t really clear things up.

Building on Existing Buzz for ‘LENNONYC’ Screening

Saturday, October 9 would’ve been John Lennon‘s 70th birthday. Fans will have the opportunity to gather in New York City’s Central Park on that evening to see a special screening of LENNONYC, a new documentary by American Masters, which is produced in association with WNET.  The film takes a look at Lennon’s life and work in New York City with his wife Yoko Ono and son Sean. The film will make its television debut on November 22. The clip above, via Thirteen.org, is an excerpt from the film.

DKC, which has been helping with promotions for the film since August, has also worked with WNET on other documentaries, and has also worked with PBS on movies such as the recent Ken Burns film Baseball. For the firm, the task was to plug into the conversation that already exists around John Lennon.

“It’s more an issue of providing a venue for people to share this experience together,” said Joe DePlasco, MD at DKC. Read more

Passion Pit on Their Popularity: “We Have a Really Awesome Publicist”

[Music video for Passion Pit's "Sleepyhead"]

Indie-rockers Passion Pit have been getting a lot of buzz of late, and selling out many of their tour dates as a result. The Austin American-Stateman‘s Peter Mongillo recently interviewed the band, and keyboardist Ayad Al Adhamy credited their success to PR.

American-Statesman: You’ve been selling out shows across the country. Why do you think people are so excited to see you?

Adhamy: People tell them to be excited. We have a really awesome publicist. It’s a word of mouth or word of Internet thing. It’s nothing we’re doing.

A modest and humorous reply? Perhaps. However, it’s always nice to see the publicist get a shout out, and this band is getting a lot of press. Just who is the publicist? Kip Kouri of Tell All Your Friends PR, which also handles acts including the New York Dolls, Yoko Ono and White Rabbits.
