MWW Signs New EVP, GM of SF Office

mollyAgency veteran Molly Mulloy has joined MWW to serve as EVP and general manager of the firm’s San Francisco office.

This announcement marks the latest step in the firm’s West Coast expansion, which most recently included the acquisition of LGBT specialty firm Macias Media Group.

Mulloy brings more than 15 years of experience in both agency and in-house positions to the role. Before joining MWW, she was EVP of Zeno Group Los Angeles, where she specialized in consumer tech and worked with clients like Expedia, Redbox and T-Mobile.

MWW president/CEO Michael Kempner explains the hire:

“Molly’s deep understanding of Silicon Valley and the tech space will be a major asset as we embark on a new stage of expansion.”

She will also serve as western region technology practice lead and global tech practice co-lead.

Edelman’s Zeno Group has signed with Tylenol. Parent company Johnson & Johnson wants to counter a “series of recalls and manufacturing issues” as well as the lawsuits filed in the wake of reports tying Tylenol overdoses to liver failure.

A company spokesman issued a statement to AdAge but did not connect the decision to hire Zeno to the recent string of bad publicity…

Roll Call: Edelman, Weber Shandwick, Antenna Group and More

Edelman PR has named Julianna Richter chief operating officer for Edelman U.S. effective March 25. In this role, Richter, a 13-year veteran of Edelman, will have management and operational responsibility for the West Coast, Southeast and Southwest regions and establish a U.S.-wide knowledge management system. She will report to Mark Hass, president and CEO of Edelman U.S. Richter was previously head of the firm’s Global Client Relationship Management (GCRM) program, which will now be led by Lisa Sepulveda, also effective March 25. Weber Shandwick promoted Tara Murphy to the new role of executive vice president for strategy in the New England region. Based in Boston, Murphy will continue leading the healthcare practice, and will also bring her expertise as a strategist to clients across industries. Additionally, Murphy is co-leading a Healthcare Reform Team to help clients navigate the dramatic changes that are reshaping healthcare. A seven-year veteran of Weber Shandwick, Murphy joined the firm with more than 15 years of experience in broadcast journalism and politics. She held a number of senior editorial positions at WBUR National Public Radio in Boston, including senior producer for the award-winning NPR talk show The Connection, and managing editor for the national news magazine Here and Now. The stars have certainly aligned for Steve Stoute’s agency, Translation: Hip-hop juggernaut Jay-Z, film legend Ron Howard and iconic American beer brand Budweiser, along with a host of other talents, marketing gurus, PR experts and businesspeople are joining forces to create a film based on the two-day “Budweiser Made in America” film festival to be held in Philadelphia, PA, in September.

Sovereign\Santander has chosen Arnold Worldwide to represent the bank’s rebranding in a review competition that included Mullen and SapientNitro. Santander, the Spanish brand that bought Sovereign—and its 722 branches—in 2009, hired Arnold Worldwide to position the brand and execute its sweeping marketing and advertising efforts.

The Marcus Graham Project, an intensive summertime program designed to help rectify the ad industry’s lack of diversity, is celebrating its fifth anniversary by announcing that the project is going full time. This evolution, named Locomotus, will require $2.6 million in its first year.

Stalwart anti-spyware brand McAfee, recently bought by Intel, has chosen Daniel J. Edelman’s Zeno Group as its AOR. This marks an account boon for Zeno, which is expanding its tech portfolio in its Silicon Valley office. Zeno will presumably be promoting McAfee’s digital products which give users the option of customizing their security settings.

Moet & Chandon USA has chosen Miami-based BRPR to head its digital strategies, sponsorship integration and brand communication across all platforms in the USA.

Telefónica Digital, a unit of the Spanish telecom company Telefónica, has chosen Access Communications and Bite Communications after a competitive review. Bite will head things up on the global level and Access will handle North American PR with special attention on Silicon Valley where the company has its venture capital and global partnership groups. DJE Promotes VanderMolen to ‘Activate’ Edelman Holding Company

Daniel J. Edelman Inc (DJE) announced this morning that it has promoted Alan VanderMolen to vice chairman of the Edelman holding company. The move is an effort to build on the business’ holding company model with PR as the focus.

Looking back, Richard Edelman, CEO of Edelman and executive chairman of DJE, points out that “DJE was the original name of the company.” Over the years, Edelman has come to the forefront. Now, the company wants to diversify. Doing that requires “activating the holding company.”

“We want to make it clear to the marketplace that we want to compete with Omnicom, et. al. But they put at their center their advertising business and we put PR at the center,” said Edelman.

“We’re unique in being a PR-centered holding company. We’re an example for all the rest,” Edelman added.

Zeno Group Opening Sixth Office in Silicon Valley

Zeno Group, sister firm to Edelman, will open a sixth office in Silicon Valley on December 1. The new office will serve as the firm’s HQ for its tech practice, which the firm says has grown over the past two years. Zeno Group already has office in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Toronto.

Todd Irwin, MD of technology, will run the new office. He’ll be joined by four VPs to lead the operation: Victoria Brown, Monica Walsh, Katie Wood Znameroski, and Mary Ellen Ynes. All of these execs were previously with Edelman in San Mateo, where Irwin was EVP and GM. The roster of Zeno clients includes VeriFone Systems, Life Technologies, Q-Cells, and The Churchill Club.

Maria Amundson will become EVP of Edelman’s San Mateo office, starting December 1.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has chosen Ogilvy PR for its “Dating Matters” campaign, focused on promoting healthy relationships and preventing teen dating violence in at-risk urban communities. Once the campaign has rolled out, its effectiveness will be determined and the campaign could grow geographically. Ogilvy Washington is handling the account.

Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) has chosen Crosby Marketing Communications for a new website for its clothing and household goods donation services.  The firm will also handle online promotions via social media and other channels.

Two healthcare companies — Virtual Health, a subscription service for those in assisted living facilities, and K2M, a medical device company — have chosen Zeno Group as their AOR. Both companies started working with the firm about a month ago. [via PRWeek]

The Holmes Report says World Gold Council is looking at five firms for work in international marketing including the U.K., U.S., and Switzerland. The account is valued in the seven-figure range. The new search doesn’t impact the organization’s relationship with MSLGroup, which has been its global AOR since 2009. That account is also valued in the seven-figure range.

The Jeffrey Group has added Bayer and Johnson & Johnson to its roster out of Brazil. The firm had been providing Johnson & Johnson’s with services for its oral care and corporate comms divisions and now adds OTC and women’s health. The firm had been helping Bayer CropScience and Bayer’s corp comms and HealthCare groups, now adding a customer relations program. The firm will expand the 40 Sao Paulo-based staffers working on the account.
