First on PRNewser: Thom Brodeur senior VP, global strategy & development at press release distribution company Marketwire was laid off, according to an anonymous source.

PRNewser confirmed the high-level departure with one of the company’s PR reps Paolina Milana who cited “strategic reorganization” within Marketwire, and called Brodeur a smart and engaging member of the team. Brodeur also confirmed the reason for the cut by email, and wouldn’t comment on his plans at this time.

Brodeur joined Marketwire in Spring 2007 from Brodeur Worldwide’s Phoenix office where he was VP. He’s not related to BW’s founder and Chairman John Brodeur.

Marketwire is one of the bigger distribution services along with PRNewswire and Businesswire and is the wire of choice for Canadian corporations–they have five offices there, among other countries.

Brodeur was part of an effort to becoming more 2.0 in recent years, as the Social Media Press Release (SMPR) became recognized as a useful tool.
