margaret thatcher is a trailblazer.
she turned a britain in decline into a world power.
a leader who wasn't afraid to stand for what she believed in.
if only we had more leaders like her.....
Margaret Thatcher: In every sense a leader

probably the only thing you and i will EVER agree on..
she was what england needed, when england needed it..
god rest her soul..

She was what England desperately needed at the time. Her ideas, strength and leadership influenced us as well, bringing about our own economic resurgence. Wouldn't it be great to have a Margaret Thatcher leading us today?

She was indeed the right person...
at the right time.

And who could forget the iconic 'Newsweek' cover: "The Empire Strikes Back"? Classic.
A truly great Leader. RIP.

RIP Lady Thatcher

This agreement crap has GOT to stop
And lest ye think I'm kidding, my Facebook friends from Great Britain are posting DING, DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD and all kinds of stories and anecdotes and things lamenting that she was ever Prime Minister.
I don't really know enough about her to give an informed opinion, but if she really did call Nelson Mandela a terrorist, that's enough for me to dismiss her.

Funny thing Tex
my pal, I had a couple of comments from my friends inside the Obama Camp echoing the same sentiment. The one opinion that struck me was comparing Thatcher to Nixon....Granted this is a Brit talking to me, but her point was you can appreciate and respect her domestic policy while at the same time criticize her foreign policy...while still giving her credit for the Falklands....
Either way, she was definitely a stong Leader for the time. I see Merkel and Cameron filling her shoes just fine.

"my Facebook friends from Great Britain are posting DING, DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD"
one with courage would say "stay classy ".
this type of classless behavior is what is to be expected from the left.
one might also remind your "facebook friends' what a backwards third world country britain was before thatcher took over.

Remember, guys, con is our "little genius."

PLEASE keep it up con;
(Quote) "what a backwards third world country britain was before thatcher took over."
Really? I honestly don't know who that is more insulting to. The British, or conservatives/Republicans like you.
Swear to God, every time you open you mouth you harm you own cause.

well mpdodgson, like to talk about what britain was like in 1979? compare that to the britain of 1990?
mp, think about electricity , phone service, running water, liberal/union corruption, among other things.
only the left gets offended by the truth.
where's our expert in all things foreign, cdnreprtr? maybe he can help you.

Why is this a surprise?
The UK, unlike the US, has always had a more than healthy commitment of reflection over its history, good and bad, honestly evaluating the critical and absurd.
Thatcher was a flesh and blood politician brutally divisive and destructive in life.
There is no argument there. The argument is whether you applaud the destruction and divisiveness, or applaud it.
The greatest honour one would bestow is not to condescend to empty platitudes after her death. . Frankly, she would have been dismissive, and hated it. it is the mark of a fool, or disingenuous flatterer. Thatcher, if nothing else, suffered neither lightly.
its simply not British.
flatterers and fools in America .. well now one gets a better understanding of Thatcher's relationship with Reagan ..

i will give con half a point ...
... state run services in the UK ... power, TV, phones .. in the 70s were appalling. They needed reform, and a shake up. The way she privatized those industries still is controversial .. all all-out sale of tax-payer owned assets, that taxpayers were forced to pay for again ... many which were as poorly run by private hand as the publics'.
American cons love breaking unions. But few americans (other than perhaps those who remember the 1920s) understand the brutal, violent, strikebreaking measures against the british mine workers. They certainly don't understand what it did to the fabric of those communities -- and how rather that saving an industry it directly led it its collapse .. and the collapse of a manufacturing sector, replacing middle class wages with low paying service economy.
It took Blairs' Labour (socialist) Party policies to rebuild a sense of national identity and any healthy (high tech, media, financial etc) economy
all of his is in the UK papers right now. Lost of polls on her legacy. Some (like the purchase of one's council home) remain hugely popular .. the vast majority (many of the thing US cons applaud) remain hated. even the staunchest UK conservatives are appalled by her stance on Mandela, the IRA, gays, .. but, then again, conservative ideology and the Tory party os a spend and weak force these days, with nothing in common with the GOP.
Oh, and one more thing: Thatcher was never afraid to raise taxes. She was responsible for the most famous ones in the UK. And she made damn sure that if the wealthy benefited from breaks, then they had a moral, political and patriotic responsibility to pay it back. Which makes her more of a real Conservative, than any GOPer these days.

She was Britain's Reagan...
No wonder the cons love her so much. Union breaker, hurt the working class for the benefit of the wealthy. As Morrissey says..." A terror without an atom of humanity..."

And another thing
I've never understood Rest in Peace. We as a culture say it, with good intention...but what's it mean? It's been a tough life, so the recently departed are going somewhere for a long...nay, a PERMANENT nap...and we hope it's not disturbed?
It's actually pretty nonsensical, if you think about it. If you're Christian you think they're going to heaven and will be so immersed in bliss they won't need rest.
If you're atheist you don't consider the soul as having gone somewhere, or even necessarily stayed together as a soul.
Either way, RIP pegs the WTF Meter.

what is to be expected from the left.
To remember that Margaret Thatcher was, to some, a very divisive figure is wrong!
Historical facts should NEVER be brought up when a conservative dies. Only good things.
Of course, brave con/puzo has made MANY negative comments about libruls after they die, but that just makes sense.
You have to set a double standard and live by it!
You should stay classy con/puzo, how could you ever improve?

Interesting point about Bin Laden
...in this rather uncomplimentary look at her passing.

"Of course, brave con/puzo has made MANY negative comments about libruls after they die"
you shouldn't have any problems listing my " MANY negative comments".
vtexan, you stay classy.

The thing about classy
...is that you are, or you aren't. You can't put it on like a hat.
Posted - 4/12/2013 1:15:35 PM | show profile | flag this post
oh the irony.
con invokes lack of class to defend the very epitome of destructive class warfare: Baroness Thatcher.
even funnier, that American conservatives would think thatcher, herself, would have anything but contempt for them; starting with the simple fact of their anti-british, anti-monarchy Republicanism, all the way through to the uneducated mouth-breathing anti-intellectualism ...
TL:DR: Thatcher was a snob, and would have mocked you too.
Posted - 4/14/2013 11:48:46 AM | show profile | flag this post
speaking of uneducated mouth-breathing anti-intellectualism,
we have another liberal pretenderating they know how someone they don't know- would think and feel.
"is that you are, or you aren't. You can't put it on like a hat."
how unfortunate for you and your ilk.

VTexan was referring to how you behave here.
I sincerely doubt that anyone on this forum wants to climb into your mind.
