Traffic Producer

Publication or Company  WPIX 11
Industry  Internet/Online/New Media, Mobile, Social Media, TV/Cable
Job Duration Full Time
Job Location New York, NY
Job Requirements PIX11 News is looking for a Traffic Transformer, someone who knows New York City and the surrounding area we call Home. The way in, the way out, the fastest, safest way from here to there. Someone who knows the bridges and tunnels. How to navigate the buses, subways, ferries, airports and shortcuts. You are the commuter’s best friend. Your traffic segments will be the last thing they catch before walking out the door.

You live for maps. You obsess over data and how to inform viewers about anything getting in their way. You embrace the power of social media, video, sensor data, graphics and how to feed the region’s hunger for immediate traffic news and information.

As our traffic guru, you are a master in the artful balance of proactive production and collaborative partnership with our on-air talent and control room producers; knowing how to lead and how to support from behind the scenes in an immediate way. You thrive on the way traffic changes in an instant and get a charge out of the immediacy of communicating that to a broad audience over multiple platforms with urgency, accuracy and improved alternate routes. You can digest data from multiple sources, confirm critical information with authorities and interact with a wide range of constituencies over telephone, e-mail and digital media to collect and disseminate information.

Specifically, you produce multiple segments each hour for broadcast and digital media that incorporate the latest technology, crowd sourcing data from social media, information from traffic services, law enforcement and sensor technology. You use our traffic cameras and create clear graphics to create clear and informative segments with accurate, up-to-the-minute information, alternative routes, and data that helps people navigate the region safely and swiftly. The reports get replicated appropriately through PIX11 social media for our mobile audience.

This is an early morning job reporting to the AM Executive Producer that demands flexibility for the days when the daily traffic story turns into a news story, or when severe weather requires extra attention to transportation issues. Your ability to be flexible is matched by your desire to be at the center of the action when things get exciting.
