2010-2011 NHL Schedule Takes to the Ice

The Winter classic will kick-off NBC’s coverage of the National Hockey League this season, with Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins taking on the Washington Capitals at Heinz Field Jan. 1.

After the Winter Classic, NBC will begin its “game of the week coverage Sunday Jan. 23. As was the case previously, the NHL and NBC will use a flexible schedule, with the network and league choosing the matchups as the season goes on, to ensure exciting and meaningful games make it to air.

NHL Network will televise up to 75 games this season in the US, though the schedule has not been finalized.

As we reported yesterday, Versus will be adding 13 games to its NHL coverage this season. The network will also be televising the 2011 Heritage Classic, a regular season outdoor game which will be played this year between the Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames at Calgary’s McMahon Stadium. The heritage Classic will be played Feb. 20, and marks the first outdoor regular season game played in Canada since 2003.
