A Second Look at the Eye Layoffs

cbslogo_4-9.jpgThe Los Angeles Times’ Matea Gold and Meg James write about the across-the-board cuts at CBS affiliates around the country, as well as the recent 1% layoff at CBS News.

“Executives have also been seeking to lower expenses at the network’s Baghdad bureau, which costs the news division $7 million a year,” the Times reports.

Also adding to the cost-cutting talks was the recent negotiations between CBS and CNN to license some of the cable channel’s coverage. Those talks have likely subsided.

“CBS News executives had been in negotiations with CNN to license the cable news channel’s coverage from Iraq when CBS News chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan was not there. The deal fell apart over the issue of international rights, according to an executive familiar with the discussions,” reports the Times.
