ABC Needs A Solution, Not A Patch
A retired ABC News staffer writes to TVNewser:![]()
“I see the ABC people who wrote their complaints to you also took them to Matea Gold. NBC and CBS Evening programs are holding on because they’ve been through their changes. ABC has had an incredibly challenging 18 months. While Jon Banner has done an extraordinary job and one certainly far beyond his expectation of circumstances, new anchors need new producers. Jon is still producing Peter’s broadcast. Its no longer “what would Peter do?” just as CBS discovered in 1981 that Walter was no longer in the anchor chair.![]()
And on the subject of personnel, you don’t screw up show 1 to save show 2. I’m sure somewhere on ABC’s bench is the Woodruff fill-in. (Think about moving Terry Moran over from Nightline or have him do an easier double duty.) The problem with many of my former colleagues is they have trouble seeing beyond the immediate moment. Analyze the problem and offer solutions — not patches — and get on with it.”
