J. David (Dave) Davis
Executive Vice President, ABC News

J. David (Dave) Davis was named Executive Vice President, ABC News in September 2007. Reporting to ABC News President David Westin, Mr. Davis oversees all ABC News broadcasts including Good Morning America, World News, 20/20, Primetime, Nightline, This Week with George Stephanopoulos, World News Now and America This Morning. Mr. Davis' portfolio will also include ABC News Special Events and advertising and promotion.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Davis was the President and General Manager of Channel 7, WABC-TV, the ABC-owned television station in New York, a position he held since October 2003. During his tenure, WABC became the most-watched television station in the market and the nation leading the competition among both households and the key demographics. In addition to more than thirty hours a week of local news, WABC produces the nationally syndicated program Live with Regis and Kelly and is a leader in providing political debates featuring candidates from across the tri-state area.

Mr. Davis, a long-time journalist and broadcasting executive with local ABC television stations, came to New York from Philadelphia, where he was President and General Manager of WPVI-TV, the ABC owned television station there. He joined WPVI-TV as News Director in 1990 and was promoted to President and General Manager in 1997. WPVI-TV was the number one station in Philadelphia throughout Mr. Davis’s tenure there.

Mr. Davis started his career in broadcast news as an overnight news photographer in 1977 at KTRK-TV, the ABC-owned television station in Houston. He moved through numerous news positions in Houston and Dallas before becoming news director at WTVD, the ABC-owned television station in Raleigh-Durham.

Mr. Davis is a graduate of Boston University. He and his wife, Janet, are the parents of two children, and reside in Manhattan.
