ABC’s Marrow Drive Registers 200 Potential Donors
More than 200 people signed up to be potential bone marrow donors at ABC News’ bone marrow drive today.
ABC held the bone marrow drive with Be the Match, which experienced record traffic to its website today. The network is raising awareness for the cause as “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts prepares to have a bone marrow transplant to treat her MDS later this summer.
ABC News president Ben Sherwood sent out a memo to ABC staffers this afternoon announcing the turnout. In addition to the in-person registry, another 500 people signed up online, and several other companies and organizations have asked to host donor drive events, Sherwood said.
“Robin joins me in thanking you all for making this such a successful day,” Sherwood wrote (the full memo is after the jump).

Subject: Marrow Donor Drive – final update
Today’s marrow drive has signed up over 200 potential life-saving donors – a huge turnout, according to Be the Match.
Also, thanks to coverage on GMA this morning and other media during the day, 55 other companies and organizations have asked to host donor drive events and BeTheMatch.org has seen a record number of Website visits.
An additional 500+ people have signed up to join the registry online.
As you know, the drive ends today at 4 pm. If you have a moment and feel inclined, please stop by in these final minutes in back room of the 47 West cafeteria.
Robin joins me in thanking you all for making this such a successful day.
Ben
