Almost 400,000 People Watched the World Cup at Work Every Day

The results are in, and the World Cup is a hit.

According to ESPN, the tournament averaged 7.2 million viewers per day across ESPN’s host of platforms (television, mobile, Internet, radio, print). Of those, nearly 400,000 watched soccer matches while at work. So much for productivity. But hey, it’s summer, right? (By comparison, 521,000 people streamed the Florida vs. BYU March Madness game last spring, although not all of them were at work.)

Additionally, the world spent 4.9 billion gross minutes on ESPN.com during the 31-day tournament. That translates into 110,000 people per minute.

In total, “160 million Americans (55%) consumed World Cup content across all ESPN platforms during the month-long contest.”

When is the next World Cup again?
