Nir Rosen to Anderson Cooper: ‘There’s no defense for what I did’

CNN’s Anderson Cooper spoke to freelance journalist Nir Rosen last night about Rosen’s inappropriate tweets concerning the sexual assault of CBS News correspondent Lara Logan. During the inappropriate Tweet stream Tuesday night, Rosen also took some shots at Cooper, Tweeting, “it would be funny if it happened to Anderson.”

“I’m assuming you mean a sexual assault,” Cooper said to Rosen, “because I had already been roughed up.” Rosen admitted that he did not read the CBS article that he tweeted — and that if he had read that Logan was the victim of sexual assault he would have been more sensitive.

“There’s no defense here,” the freelance journalist told Cooper, “I just figured that this was going to get more attention and take the attention away from the event on the ground and from other people that were attacked, because they weren’t white. They weren’t celebrities.”

Ed Schultz has a 10-Point Buck Above his Sofa

TVNewser learned some things about MSNBC’s Ed Schultz in NY Mag‘s interview yesterday — even after our interview with him last month.

Including the fact that Schultz has a ten-point buck above his sofa (which may need some explanation: he’s talking about a rather impressive male deer head). Also, his drinks are “gin and tonic in the summer, whiskey in the winter.” And the thing the Midwesterner Schultz hates most about New York?

ABC’s Miguel Marquez Beaten in Bahrain. AUDIO: ‘I just got beat…rather badly…by a gang of thugs.’

ABC News correspondent Miguel Marquez was beaten in Bahrain’s capital, Manama early Thursday morning in the latest attack on journalists covering violent protests across the Muslim world.

Marquez was not badly injured, but he was hit with billy clubs and his camera was pulled from his hands while he yelled, “Journalist, journalist, journalist!” over and over again, trying to show he was not a protester.

“Hey! I’m a journalist here! … I’m going! I’m going! I’m going! I’m going! … I’m hit,” he said. Marquez was on the phone with ABC News in New York when the beating occurred so the entire incident was captured on audio:

Yesterday, CBS News revealed that their chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan was beaten and sexually assaulted in Cairo’s Tahrir Square last Friday night.

Rosen Apologizes for Logan Remarks: ‘A man should never joke about women being abused or harassed’

FishbowlDC’s Betsy Rothstein interviewed journalist Nir Rosen about the offensive Tweets he sent yesterday about CBS’ Lara Logan — after she was assaulted in Egypt. Rosen tweeted that Logan was trying “to outdo Anderson” — referring to the attack on CNN’s Anderson Cooper in Egypt on Feb. 2.

Rosen told Rothstein, “I feel like when you have done something so offensive and stupid, even trying to explain it seems like you are justifying it and what you say will be taken out of context.”

Rosen will be on “Anderson Cooper 360″ tonight.

ABC’s Christiane Amanpour Brings a Gift for her Feline Counterpart: Christiane Aman-purr

ABC “This Week” anchor Christiane Amanpour was on the “Colbert Report” last night and brought with her a special gift for Colbert’s psychic cat “Christiane Aman-purr.” The cat’s TV debut was on Feb. 2 when Aman-purr had to predict Egypt’s fate — instead she did what a cat does: nothing. Amanpour gave the kitty a little safari suit.

Lisa Ling on ‘Our America,’ Her Sister, & Oprah’s 2am Emails

Lisa Ling, who has made the rounds on ABC, CNN and MSNBC in recent years, has a new show debuting tonight on OWN. “Our America” is a single-subject, weekly documentary hosted by Ling. TVNewser talked with her this morning about her Alma Mater “The View,” her sister Laura Ling‘s recovery after five months in North Korean custody, and her new boss Oprah Winfrey.

TVNewser: Your new show debuts tonight. What topics are you most excited about?

Lisa Ling: The first episode is about faith healing. We profiled this well-known faith healer who’s covered in tattoos and he lays hands on a man who has been wheelchair bound for years. And really, it’s about the phenomenon of faith healing, because over 80% of Americans believe that God can heal them of their ailments. This guy in a wheelchair had heard this voice of God telling him that he would walk on the last day during the last hour of this faith healing conference. I can’t tell you what happened, but I will say it was a completely shocking experience for me and really changed my notion of faith completely.

TVNewser: Do you talk with Oprah Winfrey often about the direction of the show?

‘Today’ responds to critics of car surfing story

The “Today” show is responding to a handful of critics in Florida who believe a recent segment “unfairly labeled” their city.

Last Tuesday, NBC’s Kerry Sanders reported live while driving through a parking lot in Wellington, Fla. on the rise in car surfing incidents across the country. His story included several video clips from YouTube and reported on two recent deaths in De Bary, FL, north of Orlando. But some in Wellington wonder why their city was included in his story, which appeared simply to be a backdrop for his live shot.

The village manager, Paul Schofield, “wants a clarification from the Today show,” writes The Palm Beach Post‘s Frank Cerabino. The Broward-Palm Beach New Times reports, “The City of Wellington wants a correction from Matt Lauer,” who introduced the segment. And councilwoman Anne Gerwig brought it up at last week’s council meeting: “The implication is clear from watching it. It’s implying that it’s here, and it’s not.”

A “Today” spokesperson tells TVNewser, “The goal of the piece was to raise awareness about the serious dangers of car surfing. The was no inaccurate reporting in this story, and we stand by it 100 percent.”

Video of the “Today” segment is after the jump…
