David Gregory the Buzz at Business Emmys

Gregory_12.3.gifThe event may have been to honor the best in business reporting, but the buzz at the top of the Rock this afternoon was who would be taking over the nation's #1 public affairs show — David Gregory's soon-to-be announced gig as moderator of Meet the Press.

Insiders tell TVNewser Richard Leibner, who was at the event, was telling people he is "David Gregory's agent of record" but that he was not involved in the negotiations. Which means Gregory most likely worked with an attorney to negotiate the deal. TVNewser has learned Tom Brokaw will make the announcement this Sunday after his interview with Pres.-elect Barack Obama.

On hand at today's luncheon: Morley Safer, Dan Rather, Christiane Amanpour, Mike Schneider and Anthony Mason.

As for the Emmys, held at the Rainbow Room at 30 Rock, ABC, CBS, Bloomberg and PBS all took home two awards each. CNBC and Minyanville.com took home one each. The press release is after the jump...
