Brian Williams to Speak at Notre Dame Commencement

Brian Williams will be the main commencement speaker at the Univerity of Notre Dame on May 15. He’ll also receive an honorary degree.

“Mr. Williams is one of this country’s most respected and trusted journalists, and we are absolutely delighted that he has accepted our invitation,” said Notre Dame’s president, Rev. John I. Jenkins, on the school’s website. “He has tremendous insight into the current state of our world, and I know his perspectives will be of great interest to our graduating Class of 2010.”

Williams follows last year’s speaker, President Barack Obama, whose selection proved controversial — a story covered by media worldwide, including Williams’ NBC Nightly News.

Williams will be the third NBCer to address Notre Dame graduates. Tom Brokaw was commencement speaker in 1993, and the late Tim Russert spoke in 2002.
