Brokaw Honored for ‘Taking a Stand for Press Freedom’

Brokaw.JPGTom Brokaw will be honored with the Burton Benjamin Memorial Award by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ),”given for a lifetime of distinguished achievement in the cause of press freedom.” Brokaw, a CPJ board member, will receive the award November 20, at a dinner hosted by his Nightly News successor, Brian Williams.

“Tom Brokaw stands in the front rank of journalists in the last half century,” says CPJ Board Chairman Paul Steiger. “No one in my memory can top the combination of the insight and courage of his reporting, the authority of his anchoring, and the power of his writing. At the same time, he has always been ready to drop everything to help a fellow journalist, or to take a stand for press freedom.”

November is a busy month for Brokaw — his new book, Boom! Personal Reflections on the Sixties and Today, will be released November 6.
