Schieffer ran the Rangers from 1991-1999, and went on to serve in the Presidential administration of George W. Bush, as Ambassador to Australia, and later Japan.
He is also the younger brother of the legendary CBS newsman Bob Schieffer.
Schieffer will manage operations for the Dodgers while MLB investigates owner Frank McCourt. It may also be the case that Schieffer will have the ability to take a long, hard look at the proposed multi-billion dollar TV deal the Dodgers have with Fox Sports.
