Fox Business anchor Liz Claman is in Omaha, Nebraska to cover the Berkhsire Hathaway shareholders meeting. Claman is running in a 5K today, with the proceeds from her run going to the One Fund Boston. Claman talks about the run with the Omaha World-Herald.

Monday, Claman will be interviewing Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett, along with Bill Gates, Charles Munger and Meryl Witmer. Unlike other interviews, business school students from Georgetown, Wake Forest and Columbia will be able to submit questions, with the best ones appearing live via satellite to ask their questions o the executives. It airs live Monday at 9:30 AM.

Fox Business Network has hired Jo Ling Kent as a business reporter, based in New York. Kent joins FBN from NBC O&O WVIT in Hartford, CT. Kent previously worked for ABC News, CNN and as an embed for NBC News during the 2012 election.

Speaking of FBN, Lou Dobbs is profiled by the Palm Beach Post. Dobbs has a home in the Palm Beach area. He talks about Palm Beach, but also his show on FBN.

Newsweek/The Daily Beast has released its “125 Women of Impact” list, and a few TV personalities made the cut, including ABC’s Robin Roberts, former CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien and Oprah Winfrey.

FBN Plans Weeklong Special on Taxes

It’s almost April, which means tax day is getting closer. Next week, Fox Business will present a week long series on the subject, “Tax Pain,” anchored by Cheryl Casone.

Casone will interview executives and tax experts for insight on how to properly file taxes, as well as looking how tax returns affect people in every tax bracket and small businesses. The series will run in the noon hour and will feature appearances from Grover Norquist and former Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), among others.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew Making Business Channel Rounds

TVNewser hears that new Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is going to be giving his first TV interviews since assuming the post to CNBC, Fox Business Network and Bloomberg TV. All of the interviews are being pre-taped, and will air on all three networks at 4:15 PM, after the markets close.

Steve Liesman will talk to Lew for CNBC, Peter Barnes for Fox Business and Peter Cook for Bloomberg.

The interviews can be seen as an effort to speak to the Wall Street and business communities. Obviously each interview will be slightly different, but the financial focus of the networks means that the questions will likely be focused on fiscal policy.

Charlie Gasparino Re-Signs With Fox Business

Fox Business has re-signed Charlie Gasparino to a multi-year deal. Gasparino will continue in his role as senior correspondent for both FBN and Fox News Channel.

“Charlie thrives on holding Wall Street accountable and his tenacious, hard-nosed approach to journalism has made him one of the most respected reporters in the industry. We look forward to his continued success in breaking market-moving news,” FBN EVP Kevin Magee said in a statement.

Gasparino joined FBN from CNBC in 2010. In a statement, he praised FBN, saying the network “doesn’t play the Wall Street apology game, which gives me the freedom to do my job.”

FBN Buys Ad To Run During CNBC Prime, Pokes Fun At Reality Shows

If you were a Time Warner Cable subscriber in New York checking out CNBC’s new “CNBC Prime” block, you may have seen an ad… for Fox Business:

Yes, FBN made a local ad buy with Time Warner Cable to place ads on CNBC during its new entertainment block. CNBC had no say in the airing of the ads, but it was a little way for FBN to poke its competition a little bit. FBN also released another house ad taking aim at the CNBC Prime block.

“The reality is business doesn’t keep office hours, so we stay on the job,” a voiceover says, making light of CNBC’s decision to feature entertainment programming on Tuesday nights.

Three Takeaways From Vanity Fair’s Roger Ailes Excerpt

Vanity Fair has an excerpt from the upcoming biography of Roger Ailes by Zev Chafets. The excerpt is primarily about Ailes the man, not Ailes the executive, though that isn’t to say there aren’t some interesting TV angles.

The relationship between Ailes and Rupert Murdoch is one of respect, and money:

Ailes and Rupert Murdoch are very respectful of each other. Ailes credits Murdoch with realizing that there was a niche audience (“half the country,” as Charles Krauthammer, a Fox contributor, drily put it) for a cable news network with a conservative perspective. Murdoch, for his part, assured me that he doesn’t dictate editorial decisions. “I defer to Roger,” he said. “I have ideas that Roger can accept or not. As long as things are going well … ”

FBN is building out a large studio space on the ground floor of 47th street and sixth avenue. At the Fox Sports upfront (more on that later), executives indicated that they may take advantage of the studio space too. Regardless of what shows are being produced, they are ready for anything:

FBN Keeps ‘Booking Wars’ Alive With Ad

Fox Business Network has released a house ad taking aim at cable business leader CNBC, while tooting its own horn. The impetus behind the ad was the “booking wars” back and forth last week, which saw a CNBC policy that forbids guests from appearing on FBN or Bloomberg come to light.

The ad quotes from the CNBC policy, and ends with the FBN logo and the tagline “We know how to talk to business leaders.”

Booking Wars: ‘Business leaders are not going to be blackmailed’

Investor Place follows up on the CNBC booking policy story. The author, Jeff Reeves, is a regular guest on cable business news himself, and he talks to other guests and TV executives.

He praises CNBC for the quality of the programming, but also argues that the old days when CNBC was the only game in town are over.

CEOs have a choice of TV networks (even if CNBC is still the big dog) but can also publish their thoughts themselves, as Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently did responding to a New York Times review.

If I were in the booking department of CNBC, I would think twice about some of this lest big-time CEOs and hedge fund managers tire of the whole affair.

Or as Kevin Magee, the executive vice president of Fox Business Network, said to me more bluntly, “Business leaders are not going to be blackmailed, much less be dictated to by some booker in Englewood Cliffs.”

Charlie Gasparino and The Billionaire Brawl

A few weeks ago, feuding billionaires Bill Ackman and Carl Icahn had a very nasty fight live on CNBC over Herbalife, a global nutrition company. The saga continued Wednesday evening, with Ackman using his keynote address at the Harbor Investment Conference — which all three business networks have been covering — to continue his assertion that the company is a pyramid scheme.

As proof, Ackman cited a recent interview Charlie Gasparino did with Herbalife president Des Walsh, reading aloud from the FBN transcript. The interesting part: CNBC and Bloomberg were both airing Ackman’s remarks live, meaning that Gasparino’s interview was indirectly touted on the competing networks. Watch:

State of the Union Coverage: Biz Networks

All three business networks will provide live coverage of tonight’s State of the Union speech and Republican response.

On Fox Business, Neil Cavuto will anchor beginning at 9pmET. Cavuto will be joined by Peter Barnes and Rich Edson from Washington, DC. John Stossel will host a special edition of “Stossel,” featuring a live studio audience, at 11pmET.

CNBC will have two hours of live coverage beginning at 9pmET. Carl Quintanilla will anchor, with chief Washington correspondent John Harwood reporting from DC.

Bloomberg TV’s coverage also kicks of at 9pmET. Trish Regan will anchor, joined by chief Washington correspondent Peter Cook and White House correspondent Hans Nichols.

Business Networks Celebrate Dow 14,000

The cable business networks are partying like its 2007!

At 10:08AM, the Dow Jones Industrial Average passed 14,000, heights not seen since Oct., 2007. “You have no idea how long we’ve been waiting to use that graphic once again,” said Carl Quintanilla on CNBC. The Dow’s record high is 14,164.53, a record that is tantalizingly in reach.

Not surprisingly, once the milestone was reached, CNBC, Fox Business Network and Bloomberg marked the occasion.

The Top Cable News Programs In January Were…

Putting aside special event programming like coverage of the President’s inauguration, January was a typical month for cable news.

The top program in all of cable news in both total viewers and the key adults 25-54 demo was Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor.” The show averaged 2.86 million total viewers, including 453,000 demo viewers in January. FNC had the top nine programs in total viewers, and the top three in the demo for the month. “The Five” managed to become the number two show on the network in both categories, even topping “Hannity” and “On the Record” in primetime.

The top cable news program not on FNC was MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show,” which placed 10th overall in total viewers, and 4th in the demo. “Maddow” averaged 1.09 million total viewers, including 308,000 demo viewers.

CNN’s number one show in total viewers was “The Situation Room,” which averaged 672,000 viewers, good for 20th overall. The top program in the demo was the 10PM repeat of “AC360,” which averaged 207,000 demo viewers, good for 17th overall. HLN’s number one program in both total and demo viewers was “Nancy Grace,” which averaged 396,000 and 142,000 viewers, respectively.

Business Networks Head To Davos For World Economic Forum

This week the World Economic Forum is once again being held in the sleepy ski town of Davos, Switzerland, and the business networks are on the scene to try and score chats with market shakers and world leaders.

CNBC has anchors Maria Bartiromo and Andrew Ross Sorkin in Davos, along with senior economics reporter Steve Liesman, Sorkin will co-anchor “Squawk Box” from Davos Wednesday-Friday, while Bartiromo and Liesman will be appearing on various programs throughout the week.

Fox Business Network has Liz Claman in Davos, with coverage kicking off Wednesday at 11 AM, and continuing through Friday.

Bloomberg TV has Erik Schatzker, Tom Keene and Francine Lacqua at the Forum, along with reporter Olivia Sterns. BTV coverage starts at 1 AM ET (6 AM GMT) tomorrow, and continues through Friday. Lacqua will anchor “On the Move,” Keene will anchor “Bloomberg Surveillance” and Schatzker will co-anchor “Market Makers” from Davos.

A Tale of Three Business Networks on Inauguration Day

With the stock markets closed today, the business networks have taken three different approaches to covering the events of President Obama’s second Inauguration.

Fox Business is the only network to be live all day today. The network had normal morning programming, and Neil Cavuto anchored coverage of the swearing-in ceremony beginning at 11amET. FBN’s Melissa Francis and Lori Rothman took over once Cavuto wrapped up at 1pmET, and the network will continue with regular weekday programming throughout the afternoon and evening.

CNBC was live for the swearing-in and some post-ceremony analysis, but returned to taped programming at 1pmET. Bloomberg TV has no live coverage planned for today.
