Women's World Cup Final Sets Tweets Per Second Record

Twitter announced in a tweet yesterday that the Women’s World Cup final between the United States and Japan, which Japan won in a shootout, set a record for most tweets per second with 7196. In the same tweet, Twitter also announced that yesterday’s Paraguay/Brazil quarterfinal match in the Copa America tournament (won by Paraguay in a shootout) was second all time with 7166 tweets per second.

In terms of past events, Super Bowl 2011 saw 4,064 TPS, and the all-time high was New Years Eve 2010 in Japan, which hit 6,939 TPS at its peak. On the day of the Japanese earthquake and Tsunami in March, Twitter usage reached 5,530 TPS. And during the Royal Wedding in England in April, Twitter reached a peak of 3,966 TPS.

Twitter just turned five years old, and the number of users has grown precipitously, with 600,000 users reportedly signing up for the service daily.

According to Rich Eisen of the NFL Network, the Minnesota Vikings-New York Giants game will now be played at Ford Field in Detroit due to the Metrodome roof collapsing.

There’s a new kickoff time as well – 7:20 p.m. ET. The game will still be shown locally on Fox in the Minnesota and New York markets and on the NFL Ticket package.

Monday will also mark the first night game in Detroit in nearly a decade … and of course the Lions aren’t in it.

Fox Sports pregame show had exclusive video as the collapse happened. Pam Oliver did a live shot for FOX NFL Sunday this morning showing a pile of snow mid-field and the tattered sections of the roof dangling from above.

Thayer Evans Might Need A New Cell Phone Number

Fox Sports reporter Thayer Evans messed with the wrong professor at the University of Auburn.

Evans was reportedly calling professors in order to get dirt on star quarterback Cam Newton. Evans has made it clear he has it out for Newton and was in the process of continuing his witch hunt against the Heisman hopefully.

That is until one professor decided enough was enough and started circulating his number on the Auburn message boards Wednesday evening: continued…
