AM Prod. Humphreys Leaving CBS

CBS overnight/morning producer Batt Humphreys is saying goodbye to his colleagues after 15 years at the network.

"As always, my highest regard and greatest reward has been to work with some of the best correspondents and producers of our times, who put themselves in place and in peril to cover the stories," he wrote in a memo this afternoon. "But my heart, for those who would allow that notion, is, and always will be with those of you who have shared this daily slog through news and nonsense on the eternal non-ending night."

My fellow Americans, I come to you today with a heavy heart. Over the years I’ve seen numerous notes in passing, some from the living, some of the dead, and all generally assuming anyone really cared.

I suffer no such delusion, so I’ll keep this short. Fifteen years is no small span, even when calculated as a percentage of this over 50 life at hand. With some of you, I’ve shared the times that change lives, and try the collective soul. We’ve seen Clintons, both as president and presidential wannabe, Somalia and Blackhawk down, Sarajevo and sniper’s alley, a new century and then the day that changed us all (and I’m not talking about the Death of a Princess).

As always, my highest regard and greatest reward has been to work with some of the best correspondents and producers of our times, who put themselves in place and in peril to cover the stories. But my heart, for those who would allow that notion, is, and always will be with those of you who have shared this daily slog through news and nonsense on the eternal non-ending night.

From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered -- We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; My love to all who have shared this journey. And my hope, for each of you, of a life well lived.
