NBC’s Andrea Mitchell Breaks News of CIA Director David Petraeus Resignation

NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell had the scoop of the day (even if it was a Friday news dump): CIA Director David Petraeus was resigning over an extra-marital affair.

Mitchell reported the news on MSNBC at 2:51pmET, adding “this is very painful” before reading his resignation letter on-air.

CNN reported the news at 2:57 and Fox News reported it at 3 PM. The resignation news went wide immediately after 3 PM.
