“Civil War:” “Defining & Negative Moment?”

On Monday, Don Imus asked: “Do these nitwits at NBC News think this is going to have the impact of when Walter Cronkite came back in Vietnam and said we can’t win, and Lyndon Johnson famously said ‘well if we’ve lost Walter Cronkite, we’ve lost the country?’”

NBC may or may not believe that, but Tom McPhail, a journalism professor at the University of Missouri/St. Louis, definitely believes it. He tells USA Today that NBC’s move to call Iraq a “civil war” is “a defining and negative moment… like when Walter Cronkite said on air that the Vietnam War was lost.”

> MSNBC’s Olbermann: “Is this the ‘Walter Cronkite moment’ of the Iraq War?…”
