CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta Looks at ‘Saving Gabby Giffords’

CNN will premiere a documentary looking at the efforts to save Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on Sunday. The doc will be hosted by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, himself a practicing neurosurgeon.

The report will examine all the care that went into saving her, from the actions of intern Daniel Hernandez on-site, to the work of emergency room doctors and rehabilitators. As Gupta reports, only about 5% of people that sustain a gunshot wound to the head survive.

“That her physicians and therapists each confirm that Congresswoman Giffords continues to improve daily is important,” reflects Dr. Gupta, “on-going progress means that she is still acquiring new skills that she is still healing. That supports the optimism of the team that is helping her achieve what is already a remarkable recovery.”
