Colbert on ‘Late Show’: ‘I Do Not Envy Whoever They Try to Put in That Chair’

The announcement that Stephen Colbert will replace David Letterman as the host of “The Late Show” next year was a hot topic on the Comedy Central last night.

On “The Colbert Report,” Colbert talked about Letterman’s retirement without directly addressing the news that he will be the new “Late Show” host. “This man has influenced every host who came after him and even a few who came before him, he’s that good. And I gotta tell you — I do not envy whoever they try to put in that chair,” Colbert joked. Watch:

“The Late Show” was a repeat last night, but the Colbert announcement was also news on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” — complete with a flashback to old clips of Colbert. Watch after the jump.
