Iseman Exclusive Moves to CBS

Maggie Rodriguez will interview Washington lobbyist Vicki Iseman on CBS’ The Early Show Monday morning, in her first television interview since settling her lawsuit against the New York Times.

Iseman was scheduled for her first TV interview with Larry King earlier this week, but a spokesperson says she was bumped at the last minute. “Our producers decided to go in a different direction,” says the CNN spokesperson.

Iseman has spoken just once publicly about the lawsuit, in an interview with Politico.

Fox Business Network will cover Warren Buffett‘s annual shareholder letter, which is set for release at 8amET tomorrow, during its live, four-hour program, “Your Money, Your Questions,” from 10am-2pmET.

The call-in show, hosted by Dagen McDowell, is slated to hear from someone on speed dial — FBN anchor and Buffett buff, Liz Claman.

Changes at NBC’s D.C. Bureau

FishbowlDC has the memo from NBC D.C. bureau chief Mark Whitaker announcing several promotions.

Antoine Sanfuentes was promoted to Deputy Bureau Chief from his “decade as Senior White House producer.” He replaces Wendy Wilkinson, who is leaving the network next month.

Also, Albert Oetgen‘s role has been expanded to managing editor as well as senior producer for Nightly News and Today show. And Meaghan Rady returns to the east coast as a coordinating producer for those shows. Rady was Tom Brokaw‘s producer during his final years at Nightly News, later moving to NBC’s LA bureau.

World News Heads West as California Jobless Rate Tops 10%

The digital transition, which came for some Feb. 17, and will be coming for the rest of us in June, has pushed the normal February ratings period into March. Yesterday, we told you about Nightly News’ plans for sweeps, as for ABC, Charlie Gibson is headed west for a couple days.

“World News” will originate from California Monday and Tuesday with the focus on what the recession means to the state — from sky-high foreclosure rates to today’s announcement that the unemployment rate hit 10.1% — nearly doubling in two years (5.2% in Feb. ’07.)

Gibson will also be a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday.

What Recession? Anderson Cooper Nearly Doubles in Price

Last night in Times Square, Bailey House had its annual auction which featured several tvnewsers as items up for bid, including Meet & Greets and studio tours with Katie Couric, Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams, and Rachel Maddow as well as VIP tickets for the Today show and GMA Summer concert series. The last we looked they were each in the $700-$800 range. In the not-so-silent Auction portion, a dinner with CNN’s Anderson Cooper went for $7,500 up from $4,500 last year.

But the highlight for us may have been talking with Jane Pauley who says she’s got some exciting things lined up in 2009. But she also revealed that when she goes back to 30 Rock these days, she has to stop first at the visitor’s desk.

ABC’s Jeffrey Schneider was once again co-chair along with Jeffery Povero. In all, Bailey House raised more than $700,000 to help homeless people living with AIDS.

Morning Show Ratings: Week of Feb. 16

NBC’s Today show was the top network morning show last week, although all three shows declined week-to-week. Still, NBC expanded its lead over both of its competitors in Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo.

2nd place Good Morning America’s lead over 3rd place The Early Show grew in both categories week-to-week.

Total Viewers: NBC: 5,800,000 / ABC: 4,500,000 / CBS: 2,800,000

A25-54 rating: NBC: 2.1 / ABC: 1.6 / CBS: 1.0

News From CPAC: Mixed Reaction to Tucker

Former CNN and MSNBC anchor Tucker Carlson spoke at CPAC yesterday, and the room of conservatives had mixed reaction as he talked about the media. “If you create a news organization whose primary objective is not to deliver accurate news you will fail,” he said. He offered praise for both the New York Times and Fox News:

Two More Newsers Say So Long

More last days to tell you about today.

As we reported last month, NBC News specials EP Phil Alongi (left, packing boxes today) is leaving 30 Rock after more than 30 years with the company. (Although he’s expected to be back with NBC News later this year to help with planning for the Vancouver Winter Olympics).

The NYObserver’s Felix Gillette reports Alongi is already on to his next move: Alongi Media Solutions. “What I really love to do is to pull together major events,” Alongi tells Gillette. “I love coming up with a theme, figuring out how to organize it, how will it play out, how to present a cohesive message, and how do you keep the interest of the audience either in person or via television. That’s the kind of stuff that I’m really hoping to get my hands into.”

Also leaving, for the second time, is CBS News public relations guru Leigh Farris. Farris was the publicist for the CBS Evening News before departing in 2007. She returned last year as a PR consultant to assist the Evening News through the election. She’s returning to her life in San Francisco.

Having worked with both Alongi (in my old media life) and Farris (in my new media life), I wish them nothing but the best in their futures.

“30 Rock” Leaves 30 Rock For Larry King Guest Spot

Three weeks ago it was NBC’s Matt Lauer making an appearance. Last night it was Larry King‘s turn.

The CNN anchor was at the center of the plot of “30 Rock” last night, as an interview with Tracy Jordan (played by Tracy Morgan) suddenly turned serious when the Asia markets began collapsing. King and Jordan had to navigate the breaking news together — with Jordan dishing out some suspect advice.

Nightline Tops Late Show Last Week

ABC’s Nightline topped CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman last week in Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo.

Compared to the same week last year, Nightline grew 24% in Total Viewers and 11% in the demo. It also continues to close the gap with NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (which becomes The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien on ~~May~~ June 1). Nightline has shrunk the gap in Total Viewers by 38% and 27% in the demo year-to-year.

Brian Williams was a guest on last night’s Daily Show, and it began with a compliment-off. “It’s a man amongst children in the news business…You make Charlie Gibson look like Nick, Jr. news,” said Jon Stewart. “I feel equally about you and pretend newscasts,” Williams said. O’Brien Talks “Inaccuracies” in Aviation Reporting, Future of Media on the “Menu”

Former CNN anchor Miles O’Brien joined us on the Media Menu podcast this morning to talk about what’s next for him, and all media, and leaving CNN in December.

As aviation stories have moved front and center in the last couple months, O’Brien has continued his reporting on the Web. “I was pretty bowled over by the response…People are thirsty for information from sources they feel they can trust,” he says. “And they will seek you out. And in the blog world you do get linked and re-linked and bounced around that echo chamber in ways that are extremely effective.”

What’s not always effective is how O’Brien views TV reporting on aviation. “Aviation is something I know very well, so when I watch the coverage in general I’m horrified about the things that are reported and the inaccuracies that get out there in the moment when there’s still a smoldering hole in the ground,” he says.

So what does he think about CNN dismantling the entire science and technology unit? “I think it’s a reflection of how our society feels about that content,” says O’Brien. “Science and technology news coverage is no longer ready for prime time, it seems. I don’t think people are as interested in that subject matter as they should be.” And now he’ll try to get them hooked again. He hosts a PBS documentary May 20 (release after the jump) looking at the infrastructure problems across America. “It’s exciting to be able to my sink my teeth into an hour on a subject matter I’m obviously into,” he says.

Also discussed: O’Brien’s take on newspapers charging for content online (he’s for it), his theory for a “freelance virtual newspaper” and how he can help Glynnis overcome her fear of flying (and, as every Friday, “What We Learned This Week” — and it’s more optimistic than usual).
