Kate Snow Anchors Memorial Day ‘Nightly’

kate-snow_5-31.jpgRecent NBC hire Kate Snow might have just joined the network, but she’s already filling for Brian Williams. The former ABCer anchored “NBC Nightly News” this Memorial Day.

We spoke to Snow on her very first day at NBC — which was May 10th — and she told us that she was looking forward to other potential contributions at the network beyond just her position as a correspondent for “Dateline.” “There are all kinds of opportunities here and that was a big part of my decision to come over,” she said.

Before joining NBC, Snow had been the weekend anchor of “Good Morning America” on ABC and had occasionally filled in as anchor of “ABC World News.”

Oil Spill the Big Sunday Show Topic

The oil spill in the gulf coast was the lead topic on the Sunday shows this morning with both officials from BP and the Obama administration making rounds.

BP’s managing director Bob Dudley appeared on ABC, NBC, FOX, CNN, and CBS (where John Dickerson was in for Bob Schieffer):

In addition, NBC and CBS both had Carol Browner, Director of the White House Office of Energy and Climate Change Policy, and FOX and CNN had Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. ABC had an exclusive with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal that was shot on the Gulf earlier in the weekend.

‘Do Not Touch Me’

Our pals over at PRNewser posted video this week of one of the more bizarre reporter/media-relations interactions we’ve ever seen. Dan Noyes of KGO-TV — ABC O&O in San Francisco — is looking to interview a hospital administrator over a controversial program when the hospital’s communications director tries a…unique approach to dealing with television newsers.

Ann Curry Makes It Up To Wheaton College (The Right One)

NBC News’ Ann Curry made some headlines last week due to a little mistake she made while giving the commencement speech at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. In case you missed it, when she listed some distinguished alumni from the college, she named people that graduated from the Wheaton in Illinois. Whoops.

Curry apologized in a letter to the Wheaton community, but on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” this week, she was able to express her feelings on camera:

So, future commencement speakers, take Ann Curry’s advice: Don’t Google drunk.

Soledad O’Brien on Her ‘Controversial’ Doc

controversial_5-29.jpgSoledad O’Brien‘s newest project for CNN is a bit of a departure from her other In America films.

She spoke about the documentary, “In America: Gary & Tony Have a Baby,” in a Q&A with Change.org who asked if she feels the topic and special itself are particularly controversial:

Adam: The trailer starts out by identifying the topic as one of the most controversial issues of our time. Why do you think the idea of two men raising a baby is controversial?

Soledad: Well I’ll start out by saying I don’t. I don’t write the promos, but I think what they were referring to is the fact that in the past year and in the next several years, the idea of gay marriage has been very controversial. And controversial meaning that there are ardent opinions on either side of the issue where people firmly believe that they are right. So I think that this is an issue that people feel very strongly about, but again that is promo copy, that is not my documentary. (h/t J$P)

“Gary & Tony Have a Baby,” airs June 24th at 8pmET.

Related: O’Brien also played “21 Questions” with NYMag’s Daily Intel this week.
