George to Jorge: One of the Things I’ve Learned is to Let Go

JorgeGeorge304During the first of what may be a recurring segment on the new network Fusion, Univision anchor Jorge Ramos and ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos, along with Fusion anchor Alicia Menendez, chatted about politics, policy and the news business, including the “GMA,” “Today” show rivalry and Monday’s “GMA,” “Despierta America” crossover episode.

Jorge also asked George what was the secret behind his transition from working in the White House, to becoming a political pundit, to anchoring the news.

“The secret is to always dance on the inside, not the outside,” joked Stephanopoulos, known for his straight-laced role on “GMA.” “One of the things I’ve had to learn in the morning, is to let go a lot of that preparation and just go with the moment…go with the flow.”

Both Jorge and George host Sunday morning public affairs shows on their respective networks. Jorge’s secret: he tapes “Al Punto” on Fridays.

“I gotta work on that Friday afternoon taping thing,” said the ABC George.

Fox News Bumped Off Top 10 List of Best Perceived Brands by Republicans

bill o'reilly_304x200Fox News Channel has been replaced by a soap on an annual list of brand preferences.

Fox News topped the 2012 YouGov BrandIndex ranking of best perceived brands by Republicans. This year, Fox News is at No. 11. Dove came in at No. 10.

The first place spot on the GOP list is Craftsman, which is No. 3 for Democrats. Two other brands that fell out of the top 10 Republican list are Chick-Fil-A and the Discovery Channel.

While there is some political crossover of brand awareness — for example Cheerios, Amazon.com, Johnson & Johnson and Home Depot are on both the GOP and Democrat list — some big brands only make one Top 10 ranking. Google, which ranked No. 1 by Democrats, is not among the Republican Top 10. Welch’s, No. 8 for the GOP, does not make the Democrat Top 10.

Another: PBS is ranked No. 7 by Democrats, but does not make the GOP Top 10.

Fusion Partners With National Journal’s ‘Next America’ Project

abc_fusion_logo2_130508Fusion and National Journal‘s “Next America” project are partnering to “jointly produce political, economic and cultural news for a more ethnically diverse America,” Fusion CEO Isaac Lee and National Journal editorial director Ronald Brownstein announced today.

“Next America” explores political and social impacts of racial and cultural change in the U.S., while Fusion’s mission is to “champion a young, diverse America.”

“Ron and the National Journal team are true thought leaders on this subject and understand how two of the largest demographic waves since the baby boom—millennials and Hispanics—are impacting so many sectors of society today, including politics,” Lee said in a statement.

In other Fusion news, the network has signed on several advertisers as launch partners, including Allstate, A&T, Johnson & Johnson, Samsung and Toyota.

“We are delighted that several of America’s most recognized brands have identified Fusion’s programming as a unique opportunity to reach one of the fastest growing audiences in the country,” Catherine Sullivan, senior vice president of sales for ABC News and Fusion, said in a statement.
