Dave Marash On His “Really Exciting” New Job

First on TVNewser: After leaving his job as a Washington, DC-based anchor for Al Jazeera English in March, Dave Marash tells TVNewser he’s heading to China this fall, to teach journalism for a semester at Shantou Technical University. “The teaching is going to be really exciting,” he says. “And I can’t think of a more interesting place to be than China right now.”

He’s following in the footsteps of other U.S. journalists on staff at Shantou: ex-CNNer Peter Arnett and former CBSer Peter Herford.

In January, Marash will move on to the University of Hong Kong, where he’ll teach for the spring semester.

Marash also just wrapped up some freelance television work — a series of reports on Eastern Europe done with his producer/videographer/editor wife Amy Marash — for the new, Martin Savidge-anchored PBS program Worldfocus. The show is scheduled to debut October 6. “I’m convinced they want to do serious global news reporting on television,” Marash says. “And the opportunity to do that is rare, and I believe in their case is going to be terrific. So I literally couldn’t say no.”
