Denied a Visa, Ann Curry gets first interview with Aung San Suu Kyi the old fashioned way
Ann Curry recently traveled to Asia with the goal of entering Myanmar (formerly Burma) to get the first U.S. TV interview with Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel-prize winning opposition leader released from house arrest in November. Curry got the interview, but by phone, from her office at NBC. But because the network was able to get a camera in-country, Curry secured the interview she’d traveled around the world to get.
Expect to hear more from Suu Kyi. She says now that she has been granted an internet connection, she plans to set up Facebook and Twitter accounts.
> Update: While Curry got the first broadcast network interview with Suu Kyi, CNNI got the first interview with her back on November 19.
